| got a cool little gadget today
its an optical tach for airplanes. it was like 27 bucks and it gives rpm up to 20,000 or something. perfect for finding the Kv rating of motors, homewound or whatever. glue a popsicle stick on the motor and rev her up! or use a modified prop. |

Those are cool, but they are limited to slower motors. Most of the motors I have have a max RPM of well over 30,000. I have one made by SNAP-ON that has settings for Ft/Min, and RPM's. It has both an optical sensor and a couple different wheeled attachments. But it was quite a bit more than $27.00. Yet, it will read anything I can throw at it. That would be nice for some slower RPM applications though. |

i just picked mine up at the hobby shop- im sure hobby lobby or horizon has it. it does have a limit at 30 k i think, but if you set if for a 4 blade prop and use a 2 blade you can get around that. i used a servo arm and just shoved it on and it worked great as a fake prop!
