the stock honcho ae-2 esc is good, with drag brake. 2s lipo compatible, but i've ran 3s on it before!!! can usually pick them up cheap here or on ebay.

they are actually pretty good. if you have the castle link you can change a few things on them. other than that, go with a good name brand. holmes hobbies, tekin, castle.

Then the AE-2 is probably your best bet.

Sidewinder v2 or SCT, you can pick them up on ebay brand new for $35 last time I checked. Great ESC for a really good price.

The sidewinder is the duratrax one right? Its the one is the brushless element setup? Someone told me its not good to run a brushless esc woth a brushed motor.

AE-2 with bec can run 3s all day. Has drag brake that works well, I think it's the best esc for around $35-$45.

i was running the AE-2 esc in my ax10 and it ran fine with stock electronics. if they plan on putting in a high torque steering servo like a 7955TG this esc cant handle it without a BEC... but with stock servo it works awesome never had a problem with mine. love it. i put my novak rooster crawler esc from my honcho into my ax10 and the AE2 is going in my honcho.

not sure the budget but my novak rooster crawler was 100.00 which is a little on the steep side but well worth it!!

No it is made by Castle Creations and is able to do both brushed and unsensored brushless.

Now that I look prices on them have gone up, cheapest buy it now is like $50 I picked up 2 for $35 a piece shipped like 3 months ago.

The DuraTrax Element is a rebadged Castle Sidewinder but only comes as a ESC/motor combo as far as I can tell.

Element by Castle 3900kV Brushless System - Duratrax

Similar to the HPI Flux ESC also by Castle:

Yeah i have that setup the element one but only had the esc hooked up to a brushed 45t and i put my rooster on instead cause i wanted a power off and on switch. After i put it on i was looking up specs on it and it dont alow 3s lipo lol so that sux. The guy who hooked it up also said its good i switched cause the element esc doesnt work good with brushed motors, is that true? And is the a way to run 3s safe on my rooster or do i need to get 2s lipos?

Castle SV2 is the best option.. For about $50-60... I paid more than that I think.. But non the less, it has a the ability to run 3s Without a BEC if you really don't want to install one. Plus it can run brushless down the road if you change your mind on what truck style you like. PLUS it has way more options with programming in the castle software than the ae2 ..
