Default Lipo charging issue

I've got these two big 3s lipos.. A Venom 5000mah 20c and a 5400mah 20c. Neither one will take a 5.0A charge on my Onyx 230. It'll only charge at like 4.5A or less.. My wifes 2s 5000mah Venoms both charge at 5.0A no problem.

Also they appear to take a long time to balance.. I use a Blinky while charging. The 5400mah can take an hour or more after it's finished charging for the blinky to stop..

Concerns? Ideas? Suggestions?

That's probably because your charger isn't powerful enough to do the job. I'll bet it's a 50W charger so the max charge is 4.5A (50W/11.1V=4.5A).

The 2S packs are fine because 50W/7.4V=6.7A.

I agree with the above.

As far as balancing I have no experience with your charging/balancing setup but I would think it would be most efficient if the charger had the balancer built it so that it could maintain balance throughout the charge rather than compensating a lot at the end.

That thought had never crossed my mind that the charger wasn't capable of it.. I also obviously don't understand electricity and charging batteries enough to see why it works for 2s and not 3s. The menu in the charger goes all the way upto 8A so I figured it should work.

I purchased this charger before I knew a darn thing about lipos but knew I wanted a charger capable of charging them.. I simply didn't end up with an internal balancing capability. Wish I had though..

Just an observation.. All other lipos (Thunder Power 3s 2250mah and 850mah and Venom 2s 5000mah all balance quite nicely within minutes of the charger finishing while the others I had mentioned don't. So are the cells simply lousy and so far off from each other in resistance and what not or are they damaged? I've always ran proper cutoff on the esc's and they get balanced every single time since brand new...
