Default Axial LED controller putting out strange voltage. 15v wow

I am trouble shooting a problem with the front 2 LED lights on an SCX10. The tail lights work but the headlights don't. I took the controller out after inspecting all he wires for cuts.. All good. I pulled the little plug and tested for power and I get 15.2v holy crap!!! The tail light plug puts out 5v.. Here's the kicker. If I put the tail light plug in the head light 15v hole they work just fine, but the head lights still don't work..
Now I still may have a bad wire or LED on the headlights, but my mind boggling thing is the 15v output.. I'm only running a 2s lipo, how is this possible?

White led's have a higher forward voltage.
now my best guess on what would be easy to build from an electrical perspective is there is the led's in series and the led plug has a set current output.
so yes a 15v output would make sense, along with why your rear lights work.
chances are one of the connections for the led's is lose as led's rarely burn out.
so yes i would suggest you check the connections along the line.

As to the 15 volt... the simple answer is there is circuits you can make that will boost voltage.

The voltage for the five string auxiliary lights is 18V. The rest are in the 5 to 6V range.

Found the led problem.. Wire broke inside the heat shrink at the LED.. As for the 15v... I had no idea it was supposed to be that high .. I thought an led had a range up to about 3.7 volts so 2 in series would require 7.4v. I built my own strings before.. I used 2 LEDs and a 62ohm resistor in each loop. Made four parallel loops. I accidentally hooked one up to a lipo without having the other hooked up and it let the smoke out of the one..
