Default run time stock to novak scx-10

I have a stock dingo and a honcho with a rooster esc an a 55t novak motor. The honcho with 2.2, if that matters, runs for 10-15 mins an dies, I took that battery out an put it in my stock dingo an ran it for another 20+ mins. with more torque with a 27 t then the 55t novak in my honcho... Help! Could it be a bad motor? Wiring? Esc? I have a integy 35t on its way but don't want to toss the 55t if its not the problem.

what kind of battery are we talking about here, and what model rooster is it ?

are you running a nimh battery in the lipo profile ?
that would be allowing the esc to cut off at 6.25 volts.

The rooster has a lipo cut off on it.. that plug is above the plug in I have its on. the particular battery is a 3300nihm... I have 8 batteries, ranging from 1500- 3300... Nicd an nihm. My two racers edge 1800 run it the best, longest, still not the power of the stock scx-10 motor...

those two bottom pins you are referring to are actually to power a fan.

here check this out and tell me if this is your esc.
http://www.teamnovak.com/download/in...ter12T_ins.pdf

Quote:
The ESC is equipped with 4 user-selectable Throttle Profiles to choose from:
PROFILE #1: Forward, brakes, & reverse.
PROFILE #2: Forward & brakes only.
PROFILE #3: Forward, brakes, & reverse. [ LIPO CUTOFF ]
PROFILE #4: Forward & brakes only. [ LIPO CUTOFF ]
NOTE: ESC is factory set to Throttle Profile #1.
selecting throttle profile:
With ESC on & connected to a charged battery (transmitter ON or OFF):
1. IF TRANSMITTER IS OFF, DISCONNECT ESC FROM RECEIVER
To avoid possible radio interference from other transmitters, remove the ESC’s input signal harness from the receiver.
2. PRESS & HOLD THE ESC’S ONE-TOUCH SET BUTTON
Continue to hold SET button on ESC until both LEDs turn on.
3. RELEASE SET BUTTON AS SOON AS BOTH LEDs COME ON
Once released, the 4 status LEDs will flash to indicate what Throttle Profile is currently selected. The number of times the LEDs flash indicates the Throttle Profile selection (1 of 4).
4. QUICK PRESS (& release) SET BUTTON TO CHANGE SELECTION
Each press will change to the next consecutive Throttle Profile. *** Note: there is a time constraint during this selection process. ***
5. ESC STORES SELECTION & EXITS TO NEUTRAL
If SET button is not pressed for 3 seconds, ESC stores selected Profile into memory & the red LED will come on solid. The speed control is at neutral & is ready to go.
NOTE: Whenever One-Touch set-up is performed, ESC reverts to Throttle Profile #1.

test it by visually checking to see if the LED on the esc is blinking and how many times it is blinking during your setup.

follow the instructions on how to perform a one touch setup.

seeing you have the rooster crawler you have another option.
regardless i'm still pretty sure you would want option for profile number one.

i downloaded and copypaste this for rooster crawler esc

Quote:
The Rooster Crawler is equipped with 2 user-selectable Throttle Profiles:
Parameter PROFILE 1 PROFILE 2
Li-Po Cut-Off (see next page) Disabled Enabled
W/ Reverse Yes (100%) Yes (100%)
Drag Brake 90% 90%
NOTE: ESC is factory set to Throttle Profile #1.
selecting throtle profile :
With ESC on & connected to a charged battery (transmitter ON or OFF):
1. IF TRANSMITTER IS OFF, DISCONNECT ESC FROM RECEIVER
To avoid possible radio interference from other transmitters, remove the
ESC’s input signal harness from the receiver.
2. PRESS & HOLD THE ESC’S ONE-TOUCH SET BUTTON
Continue to hold SET button on ESC until both LEDs turn on.
3. RELEASE SET BUTTON AS SOON AS BOTH LEDs COME ON
Once released, the 2 status LEDs will flash to indicate what Throttle
Profile is currently selected. The number of times the LEDs flash
indicates the Throttle Profile selection (1 of 2).
If SET button is not pressed for 3 sec., ESC stores selected Profile into memory
& the red LED will come on solid. The speed control is at neutral & is ready to go.
NOTE: Whenever One-Touch set-up is performed, ESC reverts to Throttle Profile #1.

i have the same esc. instead of fawking around with the manual i'll just explain it.. here's how to tell if your rooster is in nimh mode or lipo mode... i just remembered that i had mine in nimh mode and i was running a lipo so i did just this a few mins ago so i could give you some accurate info.

with the rig turned off, plug in a battery, turn it on, press and hold little black reset button for a couple seconds let off, wait, if it flashes once your in nimh mode this is where you want to be. if it flashes twice your in lipo cutoff mode, press and hold the button again let off and see how many times it flashes, keep repeating this until it the light only flashes once.

the rooster crawler has a lipo cutoff and if your running a nimh battery in lipo mode it will hit cutoff and act like the battery is dead. reset it like i mentioned and it should be good to go again.

i haven't dealt with this yet, but i am switching over to lipo when my rig is complete so i am only web educated on this for now. thanks for putting it simple.

crunky- hahaha

well if setting up the esc didnt help then it could be the motor. do you have another motor that you could toss in just to try it out?? like the stock 27t or something?? a friend of mine had a 55t going dead in his ax10 a couple weeks ago and the truck was having troubles climbing and it was getting weak.

Yeah I can through that in, I have a integy 35t coming to put in it. Hopefully soon... If It's the motor, is it worth rebuilding or just toss it?

55 turn motors are so cheap that unless it's a hand wound motor or something special like that I would just huck it out.

After the battery stops working in the Novak, do you have a voltmeter you can toss on it to see what the voltage is ?

^^^ i agree with that. if its not a handwound motor then just toss it.. 55t motors are like 50 bucks..

OK, so I did lots of reading after my phone fried from goin in the drink yesterday.. I drained an recharged batteries, put my gearing at 15t/86t an did some testing.. my run time has been great! Power has been ok but still not awesome, maybe I'm just expecting too much from it... 35t integy showed up today, maybe ill see more out of it then the 55t novak? I'll test once I wire it up an get back to ya...
