tekin fxr capacitor

on brothers xr10. today he plugged the battery in and the rig started creeping forward (kinda like the throttle trim was to high), once he gave it some throttle it just stuttered and jerked. smoke came out from under the hood and he grabbed the lipo (3s) and jerked it out of the rig. the battery was HOT, and the capacitor was broke off the esc.

couple questions, is this normal acting IF the capacitor breaks off?
where can we get another capacitor?
IF the capacitor broke off would this cause the battery to become HOT?

Sounds like there was a short circuit somewhere in the wiring.

Last time my rig took a fall and broke the FXR capacitor off it fried the ESC. Make sure the ESC is still good.

Watch that pack closely and make sure it isnt ballooning up. If it does start to balloon then mix up your salt water solution and put it in there to slowly discharge it (hopefully before it bursts)

As far as the FXR it might be ok, no real way to know without plugging in a battery. Im sure if you contacted Tekin they could hook you up with an extra capacitor, there was someone on here selling upgraded ones for running on 4s but I cant remember who it was.

Crawler innovations offers the upgraded capacitor. You might check your LHS too. I have seen them in a few specifically for the Tekins.

I found a pair of capacitors for the FXR from Tekin. Got it online after searching. You can get replacement cases too.

Even with a blown cap the ESC should still work. One of the guys at the track last weekend was about to pack up his gear because the cap fell off his RS. I told him to try to fire it up, he did, it worked and he came in first in the A Main.

Just an update to this thread. My FXR was fried, looks to me like the cap broke loose and shorted out the esc. Regardless of what happened, I had to get another one!
Now why the battery got hot, I have no idea, any suggestions?
By the way the battery in question checked out good (did not puff out) and I have run it 5 times since the incident.

What battery was it? sounds like you did have a dead short somewhere..Anytime you get a short you wouldnt believe the amperage draws..Trust me..I learned the hard way in FE boating..Those fe boats are brutal on lipo packs..My boat I have right now pulls over 130 amps constantly on 6s with bursts of over 200 amps..All it takes is a split second short and Ive had packs get 140 degrees almost instantly from the amperage draw..

I know this is off topic guys but...There are like 20 ducks at that pond..And as soon as they see my boat come out of the truck, every time they make a b-line for the shore..LMFAO..That video does no justice..It roostertails like 8 foot tall and about 20 feet long! According to gps its 61mph pretty much instantly.
