Default Castle Sidewinder SCT's BEC on 3S LiPo

I'm getting lots of conflicting info about this ESC on 3S. The Castle site says it's ok to run the ESC on 3S with lower KV motor than the 3800kv that comes in the kit. I'll be running it with Brood Chaos 35t motors (have 2 ESC's and 2 motors going in an XR10).

My intent is to use a CC BEC to supply 7.4v to a Hitec 7954sh and let the ESC's plug directly into my receiver (everyone that runs 2 identical ESC's just plug them both in and don't pull the + from the second). Anyway, the BEC built in to the ESC will supply voltage to the receiver to run it.

The question I have is will the Sidewinder SCT's built in BEC still work on 3S? I don't want to run the receiver at 7.4v. If I have to I'll run the servo in parallel with the power going to the receiver at 6.0v, but I'd rather run the servo at the desired voltage and then let the receiver run at the voltage that the ESC gives it.

So, will this work?

Yea you will be fine. The RX doesnt take very much amperage, its the servo that will overload the internal BEC.

On my dual ESC rig I did pull one of the red wires just to be sure although others dont and say it works fine.

You can just use a little screwdriver to push in the detent and pop out the wire, right? I want to keep it so that I can easily plug it in and program it if I have to.

Small screwdriver or exacto knife, whatever it takes.
Make sure you tape up the un-used red wire so it won't short on anything.

So, what voltage does the ESC put out when it's running on 3S? I think it does 4.8 on 2S.

I haven't checked on mine, but I think it stays at 4.8v when on 3s..

The BEC is programmed to regulate the voltage down to a specified level, no matter what the incoming voltage is, as long as it doesn't exceed the limits of the device.

I have been running my Side SCT in my sportsman rig for a while now. Probly 10-12 packs through it now and hasn't missed a beat yet.
Am running an Integy 35t and am running a castle BEC to the servo.
If you have two ESC's and two motors, I say hook it up and let her eat.

I would go to the vendor section and pick up the servo plug that Chris_the_battery_man makes. I have one of them and it makes things VERY slick. One plug goes in the receiver, and the other two plug in tothe servo and BEC. Sends BEC voltage to the servo only, without having to make a wiring harness like I did for my XR10.

Like said lift the tab and pull the wire, don't cut it. It isn't really needed for programming though, just hook up a battery. After everything's wired together it's common to need the battery anyways.

Im almost positive that the internal BEC is adjustable as it is on most ESC's.

The amperage does drop off as you increase the voltage, that is just a function of the circuitry.

Unfortunately the Sidewinder SCT doesn't have an adjustable BEC. I checked the Castle Link software and many of the other ESC's are adjustable, but the ones I got aren't.
