Default Tiny wires on new 800mah and 450mah packs, this ok?

I just got a Gens Ace 450mah 3S LiPo and 2 Blue Lipo 800mah 3S LiPo packs and the wires running to the main plug are about the same size as the balance plug.

I'm guessing it's probably 16 awg, maybe 14 awg, certainly not the 12 awg that they say it is on their site. Is this going to be OK for an XR10 with 35 turn motors? I don't want to melt the wires on the battery pack.

i got some gens ace 800mah 2s 20c and they have some pretty small wires on the main leads as well....so far i havent had a problem...just runnin that little novak 380 brushless...i have no idea how that would compare to what you are runnin but all my stuff (battery, battery leads, esc, motor) stays cool as a cucumber even if i run it hard...

Yes it's fine.

I usually wire the whole rig with 16ga. You can even use 18ga.

The high turn motors don't draw a lot of current.

On a 2s800mah20c pack the max amperage output is only about 16amps so a smallish wire should be ok. Doubt the motors draw that much at full tilt

Thanks guys. Just wanted to check before I soldered my connectors on them. I use Traxxas plugs so all my stuff works together. The only beef I have with those is once you solder the wire and stuff them into the connector there's no swapping the wire unless you cut it a ways back from the connector and splice the wires.

I still can't believe how small and light those packs are.

Another thing, in the past I had soldered "good" wire to my connectors giving them about a 2" lead out of the plug and then spliced them to the battery leads and shrink wrapped the finished joint. This allowed me to re-use the Traxxas connectors on things that I knew were going to wear out and need replacing or were just for testing. Is this worth doing? I ask because the connectors are almost as much as the batteries at this point

You can pick these up for under $10 if you are in no hurry. Work just fine i have over twenty packs with these connectors with no problems. Plus you get the male ends to add to your ESC's.

Any issues with soldering new plugs on short Lipo battery leads? I'm nervous that I might heat up the battery and damage it (and me in the process).

all my friends and i run 2s 800/850mah lipo's with the small wires with no problems.. the battery itself will puff out before the wires will melt. im definitely not worried about it..

The smaller gauge wire is good for about 50A, your rock crawler will never see that.
