| Please help me figure this bec/speed control problem out
I have a Castle sidewinder sct speed control and a cc 10amp bec running a holmes hobbies 35t motor. All powered by a 2200mah 3 cell lipo. Been running this setup for a while and everything worked great. I powered it on and it stuttered and would not go. It would go for a second, then slow and die. I hooked a 2 cell up and it seemed to work fine. I thought my cheap hobby people 3 cell was toast but I tried it on a vehicle with no bec and it worked fine. So I hooked a 2 cell back up to my setup and noticed that I have no reverse on speed control. i took the bec out of the equation to see if that was it. nope, still no reverse. so I hooked up a different speed control to same setup and reverse works. So do you think my speed control is toast? If so would it have anything to do with bec? It could be that the speed control is the only problem but I can't help worry if it is the bec??? It worked before I left to run it, then when I went to plug it in this happened. I'm usually pretty good at trouble shooting, and did just that with this situation. I just do not know how to figure out if the bec caused this? Thanks guys! |

1-Check settings in ESC, is reverse enabled? 2-Recalibrate the ESC to your RX 3-Is the LVC set? It almost sounds like settings in your ESC changed, thus it's hitting LVC as well as reverse is locked out. A Castle Link would make it easy to check all this. |

Thanks for the input. I did try all of that as well as rebinding.

Did you recalibrate the ESC to the TX/RX? What changed between when it was working and when it stopped working properly? Have you tried it without the servo plugged in? Have you tried using the internal BEC rather than the external CC BEC? |

I tried recalibrating. The only thing that changed was I put it in my car and drove to crawling spot. The other wierd thing was that it would not shut off at all. I know that with a bec it is never truly off, but whether it was turned off or on via the switch it would still go. I figured that out trying to recalibrate. If I unplugged the battery, then unplugged the bec from the rx and pluged it back in to the rx, then plug battery back in it would be "off", until I turned it on again and once again, it would not turn off. This is a new one on me. |

I actually took the cc bec out of the equation literally by removing it. Still same problem.

Most of us remove the ESC switch & solder the 2 wires together and then wrap in tape. It removes a failure point as well as it can't be "bumped off" while running. Just unplug the battery when done running. If you leave a pack plugged in, any failure may continue to discharge the pack to dangerous levels. Also, be a little choosey on terms. Rebind = RX to TX Recalibrate = ESC to RX | |

I always unplug battery. Thanks for your help I appreciate it. I guess it boils down to the ESC does not work correctly anymore. I just don't know if it was the BECs fault. Is there any way to determine whether or not you have a faulty BEC?

Hook up the bec by its self, (no esc) red and black to the servos red and black, then run your signal wire to the rx, if the bec works , bust out a ohms and hook it up to the motor wires to check current to motor, last but if you run a brushed motor, check your motor brushes. My2% |

I went ahead and wired the bec up to a stock Axial Wraith speed control with all the othewr same components. Everything works. Guess my speed control has the problem.
