Ahhhh....true......the "new" address is Home - OverkillRC but I'm guessing there is server work going on.

My apologies (I just typed it in......didn't actually follow it)

So it looks like the FX-R/35T combo is what's out there. They have a new HD version and the Pro Version. Which version would you get?

Do you think 45T would be too slow?

Also I am thinking about the Futaba 3pm-x or the Airtronics MX-3X. Any other suggestions on the radio?
The tekin HD is a Machine wound armature with a 7.5mm comm and stand up brushes. The Pro is Handwound with a 10mm comm and laydown brushes. I've dyno'd a 35 turn of each and they are pretty much identical.

A Brood 35 turn HHK spanks both in every way.

I think a 45 turn is too slow.

I like the fxr's and sidewinders. Get yourself a star and watch the classifieds for sidewinders in the 35-45 dollar territory, assuming a 3s lipo is the max you want to run. Mix it with a Brood motor and it doesn't get much better than that for a scaler.

+1 on getting the star. I've picked up a sidewinder and two Mamba Maxes for $35-45 from here.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the Brood 35.

I agree on Brood motors, if you have the cash to spend it is well worth the money. I dont have the kind of funds to drop them in my scalers but I do have a pair in my berg.

Also Holmes Hobbies has motors of similar quality.

My bad I was looking at the 7945 not the 7954...

The 7950 is only $120 @ servo city.

I still think it is more power than you need, unfortunately Hitec doesnt really make a budget servo in the 300 oz range. There are however some good options from Hobbypartz and Hobbyking if you want to save some money and buy chinese at 1/4 price if it lasts it will probably be worth it.

I am also new to crawling scene, but not new to RC, recent go fast converts, I found an scx "lot" on craigslist and bought the whole thing, I was able to piece together 4 crawlers out of it, from a bone stock dingo, to a highly modified, stretched wheelbase, boatsided hilux body, with the other two somewhat modded. Two run stock axial esc two run tekin fxr, have the hotwire programmer, my sons and I have been experimenting with different motor, battery combos in all rigs, like everyone says fxr/35t motor is hard to beat, I would definetly go 3s lipo, a 45 turn motor on 3s still gives good wheelspeed. We have tactic radio for one(not impressed), spektrum dx3e and dx3c radios, the spektrum stuff works very well for us. Two of the trucks I bought had mip driveshafts, other two will as soon as We use up all the extra stock shafts. Seems like this is a real weak point. This forum is an unbelievable resource for info.........

There are a few Brood motors to choose from. Which one am I looking for?

I think I will stick with Hitec, from my experience they have great customer service and they are about 20 minutes from me. I emailed them to see what they would recommend and just waiting on a reply. I don't mind spending a little more for local products as apposed to the Chinese model which I am sure are good but it just makes it easier when something happens.

RC is just fun for me and I would not be getting into it if I was living paycheck to paycheck. So I don't mind spending a little more on quality stuff.

Thanks again everyone who has posted on this thread.

Most SCX10 guys just grab a 35t Type R Chaos, which has been pretty popular for that truck.

Thanks EddieO!

So what ESC would you recommend with that motor? The Tekin FXR?

Hitec customer service recommended the 7950 when I mentioned I have a SCX10 Honcho and was thinking of going 2.2 later on.

Just putting my opinion out there...

There is nothing wrong with the 7950 except the price. I have too many vehicles to throw a $120 servo in all of them and although you cant have "too much" servo you certainly can have more than you need.

I don't plan to have more than the two that I have and the Honcho will stay stock unless I really like it and then I will upgrade. I just want to beef up the Dingo and if I like it I will set up the Honcho that way. If not I have no problem leaving it stock.

I running a Tekin FXR with a CC-BEC and a Tekin Handwound 35T on 3s with a Hitec HS-7954SH & Futuba 3PM-X radio in my SCX-10 and im very happy, great torque and good speed IMO...

Just remenber what even way you go that IMO you should fit a External BEC as well when running high powered servo's...

I think I'll be running the same or a very similar set up. I might just get the FXR/35T combo for now. Maybe go with the FXR/Brood combo on my Honcho.
