| A budget servo instead of the Hitec 645mg My son has stripped the gears out his Hitec 645mg for a 2nd time. Looking to go with something with a little more beef but not break the bank. I think all the steering is setup correct? It does have some brass inserts in the wheels(6.5oz per wheel). |

how old is your son? and how does he drive. a servo saver may save you both alot of headach. your not going to get away from the stripped gear problem with another "cheap" MG servo, you will want to go to steel or perferbly titanium gears. |

| Re: A budget servo instead of the Hitec 645mg thats why they made servo savers and slipper clutches seriously though you're going to have to use your judgment, you dont want to spend $80-140 on a servo that wont last with him driving. a hitec 7954, or 7955 might be in order. (bluebird makes a few cheaper options aswell available on hobbyking, but then replacement parts and warantee are pretty well out) I personaly run a bluebird servo on my XR10 and like the performance so far. BMS-2514 Coreless Digital Alloy Gear Servo - 25.5kg I will be replacing it soon with this one. (when stock comes in) BMS-35A High Voltage (7.4V) Brushless Digital Servo w/Titanium Alloy Gear 35.5kg |

First question.....are the steering EPA's correctly set-up? It's easy to overload the servo if it tries to overdrive the steering linkage.

| Re: A budget servo instead of the Hitec 645mg It came with a Traxxas Link 2.4ghz 2 channel radio setup. I went through the setup to set end points? Will definitely check that again. |

I have been messing around with Hobbyparz Solar 770 servo in my AX-10 and so far it has been OK for a $23 servo pushing 400+ oz/in @ 7V. It is noisy and slow but it does work. The only problem is buying one, it seems they're always out of stock. |

Get a servo saver. It'll be the best $10 you'll spend on a component of an RC car for a kid. The Kimbrough HD or equivalent would be good. Oh yeah, a Futaba 3305 is a decent budget servo, ~$35. I run them on a 1.55 scaler and a 2.2 basher. The basher has a servo saver on it and I'm not a kid. Last edited by Manning; 02-23-2012 at 07:19 PM. |

Sorry to butt in... I have a couple kimbrough servo savers but find them really weak.. Is there anything out there that's a little better but still does a decent job at saving gears. My wraith is a servo killer.. Ive tried many things but all seem to fail.. Even my 7954sh stripped.. Sent from my highly abused iPhone using Tapatalk |

Servo savers are more for go-fasts that get huge shock loads when you hit something while moving fast. | |

The small Kimbrogh's are indeed too weak for crawlers. The large white ones are much stiffer, then the Heavy Duty gray one is stiffer yet. . Kimbrough part # 124 is the one you want for a crawler. |
