Yes to brush.

5lb is the limit if it's a go fast rig.

I've run Sidewinders in most of my rigs. Rustlers, Honchos, Wraiths. I've never had an issue with them running 3S with brushed or brushless motors. If you have other Castle ESCs, then I'm assuming you have the link software. Just have to set it up in there between brushed and brushless and you should be good to go. Only thing I would say, if you don't already have one, is if you are using 3S to have a BEC wired in.

I have a couple of these and they have been flawless for me on 3s in 1.9 rigs. There have been reports of the ESC's overheating but a lot of short course guys are mounting fans on them to keep them cool.

more amp handling is the main thing. the micro pro is good to like 35A that's why its a micro esc. it works fine in moa situations on 3s but i wouldn't try it in a shafty

I am considering swapping my Torqu masters in my berg 3S 45t motors with the micro's. 6.5lbs , what do you guys say ??

I use a micro with 3S in my shafty 1.9 brushless and now brushed , works great! I use a cc bec though.

Maybe I just have bad luck, but I had 3 SV2's go bad on me in a nine month period.

First was DOA, but I foolishly waterproofed it before setting it up so I voided the warrenty before I even knew it was bad.

The other two just randomly let the smoke out while crawling with a 2s pack and a 35 and 55 turn motor.

However, I do have one running a Castle 4 pole 3800kv on 2s that is still ticking after almost a year.

So, I wouldn't even consider runnning an SV2 with 3s, regardless of motor type. The original Sidewinders have a much better reputation for longevity.

If your content with sticking with brushes, than a Holmes BRXL is tough to beat, and you can even order it already waterproofed.

If brushless is in your future, then you really want an MM Pro.

Does the Sidewinder V2 not have an internal BEC? That can't be right. How many volts does its BEC have?

It does have an internal BEC, I cant remember but I think it is programable for voltage output but I doubt it can handle over 5a hence the need for an external BEC when you are using a high torque servo.

iirc the sidewinder v2 bec is about 5v/2A. the mamba max pro is the only castle esc that currently has an adjustable bec voltage

My son runs CC SCT's (same as a V2) with 35T-40T on 3S, no issues. He also uses a CC 10A BEC though. I suggest an external BEC when over ~200inoz of servo torque.

The nice part is that a CC link will program the ESC's as well as the BEC.
