Default BR-XL Question???

I am trying to calibrate my new Holmes Hobbies BR-XL and motor to my transmitter, but all I am getting is the BEEPING from the motor and a rapid RED light flashing on the ESC when I hold full throttle as per the instructions. No changes in the BEEPING or flashing and no movement in the motor. In the user guide part 2.3 Connecting to the recivier it says..."Do not connect a battery or external BEC to the receiver unless the red wire is removed from the ESC's reciever lead." I did not cut or remove any wires. Could this be why I am not getting anywhere?????

Did you connect an external BEC or battery pack to the RX.......if not, don't worry about it.

CC troobleshooting manual (bottom of the page).... Castle Creations | FAQ: 1/10th Scale Products

What radio?? Most Futaba's need the throttle channel to be reversed. Otherwise, the ESC see's "reverse" during calibration instead of "forward".

No external BEC, and I am using my stock Axial Wraith RTR radio.

Your thread sounds like this...... Did I break my BRXL? The red light flashes and it keeps on beepin on me :( post #9..... make sure your connections between the ESC & RX are good, make sure the ESC plug has the black or brown wire toward the outer edge of the RX port.

I checked the connections to the RX, unplugged and plugged the 3 wire loom back into the ESC, still no GO.

Here is a little video of what is happening

The wire and plug hanging off the front is plugged into the AUX port and is used to power my roof lights.

have you tried setting the throttle channel to rev then trying to calibrate because the axial 2.4g radio is basically a flysky radio and the flysky radios do need the throttle channel reversed to calibrate

I would turn on TX apply full throttle forward then plug power into receiver. I think that is where you are going wrong. Just my thoughts. I know it is tricky to do that because you do not seem to have the ESC on/off switch. I cut my switch out after I got mine working. I have the AE-2 ESC and a Futaba 3PM-x TX.

The Holmes BR-XL does not have an ON/OFF switch. You power off by unplugging the battery.

I took the top off of the radio box to check connections in there and they are AOK. Then I tried tapeing the trigger full throttle then plugging in the battery then into the RX conncetion. I also tried tapeing the trigger to reverse then plugging in the battery and then into the RX connection. Still no GO.

I do not know enough about this stuff to diagnose the problem. Maybe I just need to go buy a Futuba 4PL. But then if it still did not work I would be....a bit pissed and probably start breaking stuff.

Yeah it seems like you did all you could. I am very new to this myself. I do love my Futaba 3PM-X

Those settings have not been changed since I took this RTR out of the box.

I am getting tired and think I will call it a night, then hit it again tomorrow. Maybe I will try flipping that switch on the right to N and see what happens. I am just afraid that I have tried so many commands that I may have totally confused the ESC, because I sure know that I am confused

Update...

I tried moving the throttle switch to N
I tested and put new batteries into the radio
I charged the car battery
I tried binding the transmitter to the receiver
I double and triple checked the plugs inside the receiver box

There is a RED led and a YELLOW led on the ESC. The red is blinking fast and the yellow is blinking just as fast but shuts off momentarily when the motor BEEPS.

I am stumped, which admittedly is not hard to do. This electrical stuff is all Greeks to me

Give this a shot, youll need the set up instructions in front of you to do this and like 6 hands jus kiddin

Turn on the transmitter, hold full throttle, plug in esc , if you have the same results try turn on the transmitter, hold full reverse, plug in esc, if it stops flashing and starts beeping do your throttle end points then do your set up i have found on a couple of occasions that i have had to set my throttle end points and stick programing using (rev as yes) and (forward as no) which is opposite of the instructions but when your finished you have all the awesome features of the HH BR XL You might hafta reverse the throttle to have for/ rev correct on the rig when you get it set up

Hope this helps good luck

pm me if you need i'll try to help if this doesnt work for you .

I will give that a try. At this point I would stand on one leg while sucking peanut butter through a straw if I thought it would help.

I also have a Castle Creations Field Link Portable Programmer for DRIVING. But I fear if I can't figure out how to arm and calibrate the new ESC to the transmitter I will really F things up if I tried to plug in and fiddle with the Castle Programmer.

from what i understand flashing red and yellow means over temp which shouldnt be the case since you are just trying to calibrate.

also try disconnecting the servo.. if the servo is bad, this will sometimes cause funny errors with the rx.

also, if you have another radio system you can try, it could be the rx is bad.

desertrat55 had some good suggestions that very well could work.

sometimes they can be finicky.

If you read the link I posted, it depends on WHEN he sees the blinking LED's.

Two cases are "high temp", one case "should not happen".

It may be time to contact HH depending on when the OP gets the LED's.
