battery queastion 9.6 cut down to 7.2?

can i cut down a 9.6v 8 cell,2000m/ah to a 7.2 v pack.if i can does it hurt the rating?i have 3 of these,just smoked wall world special after installing esky 180s.

So, you want to take a 8 cell NiCD/NiMH and turn it into a 6 cell NiCD/NiMH?

The capacity will remain the same (since the cells are series connected) but the volts will drop (obviously), run-times will also drop some with the reduced voltage.

Be careful doing the change though, most mass produced packs have the cells spot-welded together (with a thin strip of metal), if you yank on the connecting tabs you run the risk of ripping the end out of the cell which ruins it.

Not quite sure why you want to do this..... part of your post is hard to understand (you smoked a pack??, do you know which cells?).

i smoked the circuit board in the maisto trk.the e sky 180 motors were suggested as an upgrade,which was good on price.due to this walmart special was a decent starter truck.i have a maxstone 10 coming which runs on 7.2 6 cell.i have three 9.6 8 cell batteries.unless i change the esc in the new truck to handle the voltage,but size is an issue then.thanks for the info,hope the added info helps
