Default anyone had any problems with savox servo and water?

Ok So I've waterproofed 2 savox servos the 40$ ones with plastic dip and still had them fry on me.
In the past I've had the cs170 hobbico servo and did the same thing and never had a problem. So I guess I'm just trying to find out if its just the savox that cant handle any kind of water what so ever.

Regardless of the brand electronics will not like water. However, Hitech has reasonable repair services and good support. With Savox you are stuck just buying another servo. I did not have too much luck with Plasti dip. An O ring, dielectric grease, and silicone will go a long way.

the more expensive Savox servo's have O-Rings... the cheaper ones do not.

Savox has a one year replacement plan.

savox sc 1268 sg digital is the servo I'm using. I just don't want to water proof it and think its ok to play in the water and fry it, as I don't have the money to replace it.

You should be able to exchange it at your lhs. That's what I've done. No questions asked.

I am running a Savox 1268 in my regularly submerged SCX for almost a year now. I waterproofed it by seperating the four main housing sections and packing the motor/circuit board side with dielectric grease and the gear side with Lucas red and tacky. I initially had dielectric on the gear side, but due to the tight fit of the geartrain the thick grease slowed down the servo and increased operating temp.

It was fine for nine monthes, till last week it developed the "shudders" when at neutral, something that I knew was due to moister in the potentiometer. I have had a couple 7954's do the same thing. So I pulled it apart and thoroughly sprayed out the potentiometer with plastic safe electronics cleaner. The circuit board/motor side of the servo was still completely coated in dielectric and free from any moisture, which I was happy to find.
Reasembled with fresh grease on both sides and it's as good as new.

I wouldn't be afraid to regularly splash the higher end Savox's, but I expect mine to operate flawlessly when completely submerged so I wasn't taking any chances. Grease is cheap, servos aren't.

True, there is O-rings between the case sections, but water still finds it's way inside through the output shaft I presume, even though their is an O ring there.

Do not use RTV type silicone on electronics. As it cures it emits corrosive gases that can cause issues with circuit board corrosion down the road.

I've been slowly moving away from the Hitecs after having issues with loose or gritty output shaft bearings and stripping the "MK" gear that is in all their higher end servo's. Now my fleet has three hitecs and three Savox's.

Johnnyh66, send in the dielectric'd servo just to see how they handle it and report back. Hitec wasn't impressed that I dielectric'd a 7954...

they do have a one year replacement but that is so limited to what it can be. they wont do water damage, stripped gears or anything big like that. . mine fried at the hobbie shop when i plugged it in and i couldnt even return or exchange it. high tec is a way better product and has killer customer service.

My son & I have a bunch of HiTec servos, we've had a couple issues, but have yet to pay for a repair and turn around time has been a couple weeks (NJ to CA & back).

As to water issues, I keep my rigs away from it. I only have comp rigs, no scalers.

i have stripped more than my fair share of jr9100t gear sets. probably 6 or so. high tec has great customer service and a very fast turn around time considering how many repairs thy do on a weekly basis. jr has a 3 year warranty, but it is as limited if not more limited than the savox. i smoked a jr within a weeke of purchase. it even melted the wires. proof of purchase with a date and they still made me pay for the repair, and it took over a month. why have a 3 year warranty if you have to pay for faulty parts after only owning the servo for a week and using it 2 times? for quality and customer service high tec is the servo to buy.

nope. it was a cc BEC set at 6v. i beat the crap out of servos and high tec are the only ones that have held up so far. 2+ years on the 7950 and not a single problem. i had 5-6 9100t's in that same amount of time.
