If I were to guess, it's referring to the four cell AA battery holder. So it gets 1.5 volts from each battery, and not the lower NiMH ~1.2 volts. 6 volts, compared to 4.8 volts.

See I'm sayin?

Aren't NiCads and NiMHs both 1.2v per cell, and alkaline the 1.5v per cell battery?

If I remember correctly as its not the only futaba servo with that under its specs. It's when using a rx pack the nicad packs were able to put out more amps continuously than nimh packs so they listed it as nicad only

They don't draw that many amps to make your bec give out. Your bec is just as likely to quit from running a 9157 as running a hitec 645, as anymore they seem to give up randomly. I have a 2yr old cc bec that I've used to power 2 1/5scale servos that each said they required nicads because of the amp draw and the bec only got slightly warm. And currently one of those servos is being powered by an esc with only a 6v 3a internal bec

I think that
a) The text is just cut and paste from something older, explaining why NiMH isn't mentioned.
b) It refer to NiCd as opposed to alkaline or CZn batteries, that have considerably lesser capacity.
c) NiCd is only "dead" for this type of use. It's still in extensive use industrially when long term reliability rule.
