Default Wild Runaway Number 2!

Number 2 because I posted this on RCshortcourse but I have not had any response. I decided to post it on here because this site is FULL of knowledge. After all, this is a set-up some crawler guys use.

I took my 4x4 Slash out and after running it for a few minutes it seemed to be cutting out like a bad connection. I brought it inside for a closer inspection. When I hold it at full throttle it seems to be ok but almost everytime when I let off it stops as if I applied full brake. Then it started to stay at full throttle even after I released the trigger and then I also noticed that the light on the speed controller went off, which I assume is because it is actually stuck right under full throttle. I can unplug the battery and plug back up and it seems to be ok but will almost immediatly do these actions. Also, steering works fine the entire time the battery is plugged up.
My thoughts are that the stock ESC is going bad or the receiver is. I'm thinking receiver can be ruled out due to steering working?
Thoughts from the pros?
Thanks

Last time I had that problem it was a bad solder joint on the throttle negative pin in the receiver. Could be a loose plug too.

Thanks. I checked the all the plugs bc that was my first thought. They are all tight. Does this type of stuff happen when the esc starts to go bad?

I've only seen 'em let the factory installed smoke out or just quit in R/C but I've seen stuff like that happen in the ESC's for the cat tracks on a continuous miner.

I would have suggested checking all ESC & RX connections.
Then try recalibrating the ESC to the RX.

See what happens.

Which radio (I see you're runninf a stock ESC, which one as they had slightly different ones over the years).

You could also swap the servo into the ESC port on the RX, see if it works OK.
-If it does, sounds like you have a ESC issue.
-If it does not, you have a radio issue.

Good ideas Charlie. I'll try those. It's about a 1.5(?) year old rx tx, 2.4 2 ch with 5 channel receiver. Other electronics I received less than a year ago through trade. All stock vxl. I don't believe they were very old.

happened to me when the receiver got wet and there was moisture trapped in the rx box, just opened it up and let it dry in the sun for a day and all was good.

I had an issue like that in an old Stampede 2x4 when I ran 7.2v NiCD and NiMH packs. I had to add an extra capacitor to the receiver (the one that you plug into the battery spot) to get rid of the glitching. Then I went to 8.4v NiMH packs and the issue totally went away.

I'd also reset your settings on the radio (follow instructions on card in battery tray), rebind radio with receiver, and recalibrate ESC.
