Default Traxxas monster trucks

so I got these for my daughters, ordered them the same time and was told that they would have different chips. They are both stockers with the 27meg tx rcvrs
Traxxas "Grave Digger" Monster Jam 1/10 Scale 2WD Monster Truck [TRA3602A] | RC Cars & Trucks - A Main Hobbies

However now that i have them here when I turn them on only the steering comes to life. After a while of button pushing eventually the throttle comes to. I only run one at a time due to the fact they gave me both the same chip. Once driving however too that the motor heats up and I shut them down. What gives?

Problems:
1. turn on no forward or reverse (right away)
2. Once running the motor gets way hot

any help would be greatly appreciated. They said they have no problems like this when they were at their ma's house.

1. make sure throttle epa"s are at zero
2. maybe something is binding? that or the motor is toast

If that doesnt work i would call up traxxas if there fairly new, they are usually good about sorting these kinds of things out.

are the batteries fully charged??
have to ask..

look in the end bell on the motor at the shaft..is it copper or a darker color?
if its a darker color its toast or close to it.

is the lipo mode on or off on the esc?
if its on and your using a nimh it gives a low cutoff warning even its a full battery.

You said you got two, this may sound silly but are you using the right controller for each car? If they are mixed up, you may need to reprogram the ESC's to get your settings back, then mark the cars and controllers to make sure they are paired correctly. (I've done this before, felt like a right muppet when I worked it out.)

Then pull the motor out and check everything spins okay on the car, could be something as simple as an overtightened wheel nut causing a bind. Then the motors, as said above, if it looks like it's got too hot, it's probably knackered. The Titans don't like cooking, which they can do if driven too slowly as the fan inside doesn't work very well. If you have a spare, try them with a different motor and see how that goes too.

And again, check the Lipo cut out, check your batteries, and if that doesn't work then I'd think of looking at the ESC, or be on the phone to Traxxas to peck their heads.

Hope you get it sorted, nothing worse than getting a pressie for the kids and it doesn't perform ten minutes later.

Tony

the Lipo cut off is one of the settings in the ESC, it's not a switch.

If you don't have it, here's a link to setting it up. It's for a Slash but the electronics are the same.

IIRC, if you have two 27mhz systems running on the same channel (or color) you can swap the rx and tx crystals around on one and they will not interfere with each other.
