AE-2 and hi-torque servo

I had an issue with the stock servo on my Wraith (broke it.....lol) so I replaced it with a Blue Bird BMS-630MG servo I had. Will running this servo cause any problems with the stock ESC/BEC?

Thanks

A ~200oz servo will most likely need a stand alone BEC.

+1.

My "rule of thumb" for most ESC's is, "when over ~200inoz, get an external BEC."
The Holmes BR-XL can go above that, but even it has it's limits.

Re: AE-2 and hi-torque servo

The stock ESC has a 5v BEC so the servo is only capable of about 185oz/inch. Is this still considered too close to the max?

Anyone have a recommendation for a decent steering servo?

Volts is one thing, amps is a bigger thing.

Try it out, see what you think.

It may work fine for your normal rig use, so be it.8)

AE-2 spec is 5v and 2.0amp peak.....

I don't mind using the proper BEC or a smaller servo, just want to make sure what I do do is best for my Wraith.

Your servo (as linked in post #1) is fine, but in a tight bind you are pushing the limits of the ESC BEC.

As I stated before, try it and see.8)

Re: AE-2 and hi-torque servo

What indications would I have if this setup is causing problems..........heat, glitching, short battery run time (2S-5000mah 40C lipo)? I ask because I am not familiar enough with the car to know if something is creating a problem or not.

I like the specs of the BR-XL. Would this be an easy "plug and play" install on the Wraith?

Yes the brxl should be mostly plug and play, it mainly just needs a battery connector soldered on

What most people see is the steering becomes unresponsive or the truck acts like it loses power until the load is gone.

You can't go wrong with a Hitec but there are other good servos out there too.

Re: AE-2 and hi-torque servo

I ran a Hitec 5955 with the AE-2 for a few packs while I was waiting for my CC BEC and it was ok. Seemed a little slow and weak. When I added the BEC, I set voltage to 7v and the servo came to life. I think the 5955 is around 400oz at 7v though. It's enough to flop the Wraith over when the front tire is stuck in a hole :D
