HELP! Going to 3S is giving me nightmares!

Im trying to run 3s on my scx10 scaler and have had nothing but problems. everytime i get a parts order is something burns up and im left waiting on orders again... :x A little info on what im running
-Tekin FXR speed control and 35t with stock axial radio and receiver, Castle creations BEC on a Great Hobbies 3S 5000mah pack
Before i had my BEC, i hooked up the FXR and turned it on with the 3S pack. Capacitor blew immediatly. Talked with Tekin and got some spare caps. Next run out the speed control was going into thermal shutdown on slow crawling. Probly BEC issue right? Ordered a CC 10A BEC. Wired it up, disconnected the FXR's BEC red wire. Turned the truck on, everything works fine... until i give it some throttle. Cap blows again as well as the cap on the BEC. Now my FXR is fried and so is the BEC!!! AARRGGH... HELP!!!
-For the record im pretty solid with soldering and with wiring. Nothings backwards. No wires shorting. Good solder joints. Been through tech support with Castle and with Tekin. About to throw this thing in the garbage and take up knitting.

A lot of people have problems with the fxr... one guy in our club has gone through at least 3. BR-XL is the way to go.

HH BR-XL or a Castle MMP, neither one have ever given me problems and work fantastic.
I would start over on the complete euro NH from ground up, take everything out and wire it together out of the truck. Might be something you are missing, frayed wired or something just not right. Good luck.

To go through 3 sounds a lot like user error. I have four and each works flawlessly on 3S.

Any thoughts on it being a bad battery?

I run two in my pro truck on 3S. Something with your wiring or battery is wrong. Have you tried other batteries? Crawler innovations sells larger caps for FXR's.

My speed controller fried before id got a chance to try a different pack. Douple and tripple checked the wiring with a fine toothed comb too. After the first cap popped i went to a slightly larger one, 450uF. It still blew. Ive got the battery manufacturer in the loop now talking directly with tekin and castle and they all agree theres a internal polarity issue with the batt. Hes calling back tomorrow with a plan. Great Hobbies has always been excellent to deal with so we'll see what they come back to me with. hopefully swap out to a traxxas or max amps pack. Fingers crossed!

Easy enough to check battery polarity with a digital multimeter.

It could also be the motor, I just fried a sidewinder the other day trying to push my hh 35t with new brushes. However i'm guessing you had no issues with the same set up on 2s correct?

Pretty sure at this point that its a bad battery. Looking back it also fried my stock AE2 speed controlled in about 5 seconds with the 3S pack. Ive heard mixed things on the AE2 with 3S so i hadnt thought anything of it frying at the time. Still waiting to hear back from the hobby shop....

Still waiting for parts back but Tekin says it was an issue with the software on the FXR?

Did you program the fxr with tekin's hotwire ?

Re: HELP! Going to 3S is giving me nightmares!

Ok, I have 4 fx-r an love them, replaced most of my cc esc with the fx-r.. the one in my Scx-10 runs or ran great! Then at a comp, after a few months of running my setup, my rig acted funny, cutting in an out of power. Like the lipo cut off was kicking in an out but try still working.. when I pulled my body, the battery was a balloon! So I took it out an threw it! Put a diff battery in an finish the poker/dash run. Everything was fine.. a month later, after a number of runs, same thing started to happen, I pulled the body an the battery was starting to puff.. Mmm either right after or right before that(with batteries run thru it in between each happening) another balloon.. tossed that one too.. never checked voltage.. all batteries balanced an properly charged... I thought it was the cap, so I quit running my scale rig, then I got a new 25v 1000uf 105* cap for it.(cause I won 2 3s 2200mah off ebay, they showed up 4s) so I soldered the cap in an ran a couple packs thru it an no problems, yet, ... Then I put yet another 3s in it just yesterday... It started acting funny again, pulled my lid, an a slight puff.. checked the voltage... 3.77-3.77-0.47.... Put a 4s, everything was fine an finished my day.. it was setup with a hot wire. It does get warm!
What I run... Fx-r, 35t integy, cc bec, spektrum rx/tx
Oh, I also, think, that this all started happening around the time a liquid taped the case an wires to the fx-r, it was also the same time I put it back on The hot wire, to check an adjust the settings.. lv is set on custom at 3.25v per cell. Which never let's it get that low.. it was a better cut off on setting 3..

Any help would be great! Anyone else have this problem?
