Default Hobbywing BEC Review

First off, don't get on me too hard Castle guys. I know it is programmable and capable of much more than this little guy but for others looking for a cheaper option this might work. I found them on ebay and did some research and didn't find much. That is why I decided to post this. Maybe it will help someone else out.

Link to manufacturer's website HOBBYWING TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.

Specs
Output Voltage: 5V@3A or 6V@3A (Selectable by using a jumper connector)
Continuous output current: 3 Amps
Input: 5.5V-26V (2-6S Lipo or 5-18 cells NiMH /NiCd)
Size: 43mm*17mm*7mm (L*W*H)
Weight: 11g

Price
$4.59 on ebay from a US shipper

This is what you get.

This is how it comes out of the package. It has three pins on the side like a receiver port. That has a blue connector on it connecting the two closes pins setting it at 5V 3 Amps.

If you remove the blue plug and replace it with a bind plug it sets it to 6V 3 Amps.

I tested it in a SCX10 with weighted 2.2's, Sidewinder ESC, Tacon brushless motor, and Savox SC-1256TG servo

I drove the truck first with a Castle 10 Amp programmable ESC set to factory specs like it comes out of the package. Then, I drove the truck with the Hobbywing BEC set to 6V 3 Amps.

Conclusion
I noticed no difference between the two. The Hobbywing did great. I know for more powerful servos and heavier rigs bumping up the voltage on the Castle really improves performace but for scaler guys and others running ESC's with weak internal BEC's this looks like it will be a cheap fix. So far I am impressed for the price. I will put it through a durability test on the trails this weekend and see how that goes.
