you about to open a can or worms. The first thing i want to point out is that a PSone controller is not the handset thing to have when trying to climb obstacles behind your rig. a pistol grip can not only be held in one hand, but can be ran with one hand too. next, you are going to need to be able to translate the digital signal form the PSone controller to the analogue signal that the RC controller uses with the POTS. A electrical engineer might be able to tap in and make it direct, but that would require massive modding and precise soldering. i would advise looking at a arduino and learning how to code. This is not impossible and could be a fun project. how ever, might i suggest by passing this mod and to look into controlling a RC with arduino, YouTube has some cool vids. a lot of guys use 360 controllers, though a PSone controller would also work.

Lots of guys use stick style radios though and they make it work. This could be cool actually, the XBox one would be sweet. If it could be done it would be awesome to have a 9+ channel setup and go all out with lights, blinkers, horn, everything.

okay, now your going in a completely different direction. I am working on plans for a android based system that will work like, but my prototype will be roughly 500 bucks in parts and software.

Ambitious! I like these kinds of projects, cool to see other things being done.

Yep, if you want to do it...it can be done.
Get yourself an Arduino, or similar electronic "brain" and wire that into the PSone Controller. Have it read the inputs, then convert them into a PPM signal and output through something like a "Corona Hack Kit"
