Default Help me understand electronics

First let me say that I did search but did not find what I was looking for.

I am going to be building my first scale crawler kit soon and have some questions. I am not looking to start any debates just want some answers.

Motor:
What are the advantages to the brushless motor?
Which one is better Brushed or brushless for water and mud?
How does the turn count affect speed and torque?

ESC:
What features do I want to look for in a ESC?
Aside from build quality and craftsmanship what are the differences in a $40 ESC vs a $140 ESC
What else do I need to know about ESC

BEC:
What is it and when do you need one?

Servo:
How do select a servo other then metal gears?

Radio & Receiver:
What are the Telemetry Ports for?
I see that some radios come with a receiver that has more channel then the radio, what is the purpose of that.
Can you hook up more then one servo to a channel.
Can I run LEDs off a channel to be able to turn them off and on by remote.
