Default Hyperion Servo

I hope being cheap doesn't come back to bite me again. I picked up a Hyperion DH20-UTD servo. The specs are pretty good, 292oz/in @6V and 333 @7.4 and the price was respectable at less than $50

The build quality looks to be pretty nice. I'll give it a run this weekend and report back. I will be running it at 6V right now because I don't feel like ripping the truck apart and setting up a Windows computer to change the BEC.

I searched on here and didn't find much info about these so I may be the guinea pig.

Definitely let us know! With the torque ratings, is it metal geared? Have you found gear kits for it yet to be able to rebuild it if necessary?

Here is the most impressive spec I found on this servo and haven't seen on any other manufacture's specs
Maximum input voltage Loaded or unloaded input voltage should never exceed 8.4V

Hook a 2s up straight to it!!! Very nice!!!

Looks to be a good servo!!!

Went out today and it did pretty well. It won't wag the back of the truck around, but my rig is a bit portly.
I am going to bump the BEC to 7.4 and see how that goes. It isn't nearly as noisy as the Hobbico at rest, but under load it does make some noise.

So far, for the money, . I won't be convincing any Hitec die-hards anytime soon though.

I'm a hitec guy and sounds like a great replacement for the 7955. Similar specs with titanium gears for less then half price!!! Keep us posted on how this servo is working out for ya!!!

Long term update. I have come to the conclusion that this servo is better left at the LHS. I have put it through it's paces and it just doesn't work very well anymore. I am running it at 7.4 Volts and there is no way it is putting out 333oz of torque. It won't even get back to center a lot of times with out blipping the throttle to fully unload it. It's been quite hot a few times but ultimately not anymore abused than my stock axial servo that still works but is just a bit weak.

In the end, I'm biting the bullet and getting a Hitec 7954SH.

I'm also in the market for a better servo and I'm torn between the 7954SH and the Savox SA-1231SG. The Savox has higher torque ratings but I've never owned Savox and I'm unsure. I hear they're nice quality. Price between the two is almost a wash.

Savox are supposed to be good quality. I've heard good things about Hitec customer service and warranty work. One of our trail guys used a Savox 1256 (I think) and it worked well but it was a buzzy little b@$tard. I've read other places that they tend to be noisy servos.

If the specs and price are the same or a wash..... Go with the HiTec. My Savox are good but very noisy and very power hungry. HiTec seems to have a long track record.

Does it feel like it has about half the torque that it should?

Hyperion rate their servos for Dynamic (physical) Torque and Holding Torque, both very different. It is rated to 333oz for holding torque and 166oz dynamic torque about half.

So you were the first and the last???

Does it still buzz if you lift the front wheels up? It likely won't.

Sitting on the ground, a digital servo can buzz as it tries to find "center", this is common on lots of servos regardless of brand.

Correct it is buzzing trying to find center but with wheels on the ground 99% of the time it gets Kindof annoying.

Yeah it still buzzes. It eventually stops until I move the wheels

All i buy are hitec servos, been very happy with them but the 7954 was the only one that I've had that failed prematurely. It had a bad board and then the gears stripped out. Hitec fixed it for free both times but considering how many people have had problems with it I would recommend getting something else.
