Default Best Split pack battery to buy..

Hi there,

I would like to buy the best bang for the buck split pack batteries. I current have a 8 cell nicd with a tamyima plug and 1500 mah that i bought from TCS crawler.

I was wondering what the best one I can buy and what Mah I should run and would like to stay with my old style plug.

Knowing the rig, ESC, motors & your current use would help.

I thiunk most of us would recommend going to LiPO since they are smaller & lighter than NiCD/NiMH.

None of us would recommend staying with the Tamiya plugs, they WILL cause issues down the road.

I would check out www.CheapBatteryPacks.com for choices. I only buy from them.

i run 5700 mah 2 cell lipo saddle packs in my scx10. i get 2 hours run time out of it.if my truck was lighter it would run longer. i get my batteries from hobbyking.com U.S warehouse.

X2 on the tamiya plugs. they will cause you all kind of problems

Been down that road before, the twitching's only going to get worse. Installing a BEC fixed it right up. After I got the BEC in, I went with 3S LiPos and a cutoff alarm on my AE-1 ESC. Worked really well, I'd still be using that setup if it wasn't for that stupid delay between reverse and forward.

As for ordering packs, cheapbatterypacks.com would probably be my first recommendation. You can order whatever configuration and connector you need.

How will I go around installing a BEC? I have very little knowledge about electronics. Although, I can build just about anything but the electronics. Which is why I never mess with it. It'll be awesome if you can guide me through with installing a bec..

I didn't try a glitch buster because I really didn't think it would work.

I run my BEC through the receiver, and pull the red wire on the ESC's connector.

There are also bypass adapters that let you run the BEC to the servo, and the ESC continues to power the receiver, all plug and play, no pulling red wires.

The BEC's power wires I just soldered onto the blades of my Traxxas battery connectors.

If you're looking for one that totally and completely plug and play, the one I've seen was buried deep within a thread somewhere. Since I can solder well enough, it wasn't something I needed, so no reason to bookmark the thread. Can't help you on that one. Wouldn't matter, it used Deans connectors anyway. If you're going to have to change to Deans, might as well just solder it right onto that.

As far as the bypass adapters I mentioned, I've seen them on both Holmes Hobbies and CreationFab websites. But those are just on the output end of the BEC, doesn't get you around soldering the input end.

I think rc4wd and maybe EBay have a plug and play deans connector for a BEC.

It's only plug and play if you have Deans to begin with.

Trash those tamiya plugs first, and then you'll be on the right track.

Thanks, and remember if you can't tackle soldering right now but need the deans sooner, someone in your area may be able to help. Your local hobby shop may help as well, if you have one.

I have a hobby shop but don't really carry what I need. Who should I shop for deans?

There are lots of shops (brick & online) that carry Deans. I use Tower Hobbies for a lot of general stuff.

If there are other crawlers in your area, maybe, as a group, you can talk your LHS into carrying more crawler stuff.
My son & I did that, we also let our local club know the LHS is carrying more stuff so it works both ways.
