Just wondering what your opinions are on what is the best all around Brushed motor, Turn wise and brand. Just basically a basher, trail runner type truck with some crawling involved. BTW its going in a SCX based rig. LMK

Traxxas 12t plus 3s lipo. Cheap, torque, wheelspeed.

Running the 550 sized traxxas 21 turn in my scx10 on 3s. Haved it geared down a bit, and it works pretty nice. Lots wheel speed and torque. But both the traxxas 12t and 21t are sealed can motors, so disposable pretty much. Given an open budget, the holmes hobbies hand wound 35t would be my first choice I think. Followed by a tekin handwound 35t. |

If you want a bit more performance later, you can get a handwound arm (armature) and install it. Trust me (no, I'm NOT the government) you WILL notice a difference between any manufacturer vs. a HH or Br00d motor.

So far I have 45t tekin on an ae-2 esc in one of my rigs. That's running on 3s. I have another rig that I got a 27t HH expert motor in but the BRXL I got from the classifieds was bunk. It worn't program to my DX3S. So I won't know how that will run. The tekin motor seems good but needs to be on 3s to have any good wheel speed. On 2s its a slug. Thinking about just getting a new BRXL and thinking about a 27t torquemaster pro. Just gotta save some cash. In my honcho kit I'm running a hobbywing 8.5 sensored combo and thats fun as hell but I'm just waiting on something to let go. The axles are stock I think. Got it used off of the classifieds and the trans has stainless outdrives and upgraded metal gears in a plastic case, Dunno what gears they are because I built it like 3 years ago. lol Just trying to see what everybody's opinions are before I commit to another brushed combo. Maybe I'll just go brushless. Who know. Both about same money. The rig thats thats gonna go into is pretty much bulletproof.

I was a skeptic until I actually bought some nice hand wound motors from Brood. It was night and day. They are faster, run cooler, are smoother. All around way better than a motor you can't rebuild. I don't run an SCX truck, but do run a regular AX10, XR10, and Wraith. I'd check the scaler section to see what people run that drive like you.

So far I like the HH motors. The Brood stuff confuses me when I go to look at their site. Too many options I think. lol

As to "too many options", both companies will be happy to make a recommendation if you email them and state: What rig Comp, fast, fun running What battery voltage (2S, 3S, etc) What ESC What you are looking for, speed, slow speed control, etc What do you have now and what you like/dislike about it.

Just spend the loot and go brushless! MMP + Tekin 13.5 = fun. Mamba Max Pro can take up to a 6 cell lipo. My scaler is plenty fast and low end is good also. Trust me I love my brushed motors in the comp rig but for trail running and bashing inmho brush less is the way to go . No with said I like Holmes motors for brushed applications.

I'm building a capra. decided to go brushed with a holmes crawlmaster sport 16t/5 slot. I'm going to start with a 13 tooth pinion. Any thoughts?

| Re: Best all around brushed motor Definitely gear it as low as possible and DEFINITELY watch all of Exocaged RC YouTube videos! He’s got a ton of custom mods for the Capra. |
