Default Hitec servo programming ?

My servo on my LNC just kicked the bucket.
I want to order a Hitec 7950-TH but my question is do I need a programmer to set it up ? On the website for Hitec it says you need a programmer to set up stuff like end points and other features. If I do need one or will get more out the servo with it which one should I get ?

Not required, you can get a programmer if you want to go beyond the average limits. I have run them for years with no need to reprogram.

SO really all I would gain is more tuning ability ? I don't think theres any crawling competitions anywhere near me so should I even worry about overload protection or speed ?

Call or ask your LHS, they may have one. Mine does. I never used it on my 7950,7980. Just wanted to see what it looked like and what it did.

A friend of mine has a programmer, so I plugged my 7950 up last weekend just to look at the settings. There was no need to change anything because they're already set to the max out of the box.

Oh I have one that set on my desk for 3 or 4 years, I recently had an issue with a 7950 that went crazy at a tenn crawl so I put it on the programmer just for giggles and restored it back to factory settings? it works great now. Still not enough justification to buy one.

I bought one a little while ago from the classifieds, got it to Cheap to Pass up.
I love having mine, it's not Needed but you can get 180 degrees of arm swing and NO they are No where near Maxed out from the factory. The high end hitec Servo's have a lot of programmable potential! Max and min endpoints, servo swing, output power, fail safe, etc... You can also change the center point so you don't have to Trim your radio out to get the servo horn center.
Sorry for the long winded bs session, but I thought I'd let you know
The positive points of a programmer. Everyone else has pretty much covered "why not" to have one. Lol
But as it was stated, you don't need one.

+1....you don't need one.

Since our house is a HiTec house, I bought one of the higher end programmers. The adjustments can be "nice" but it's also a nice way to test ANY servo by plugging it in and checking the full sweep. It means you don't have to pull apart electronics to test servos.
For me, the cost of the programmer spread over quite a few servos made sense to me.

For others, find someone that has a programmer is you really need to do something unusual.

Factory they come with 90* rotation, with a programmer you can get 180* which would end up giving you a hair more steering throw ... or the same amount of throw with a shorter arm that is then able to deliver more torque.

I'm happy to program if for you at no charge (if you cover shipping). Just PM me.
