Software or firmware? I use V3.51.05 link software, I would have to check the firmware. |

| Re: castle link software "Firmware" is the software installed in the ESC. "Software" here means "CastleLink". What does the wire colors have to do with the firmware? |

| Re: castle link software There was a firmware or 2 last year that had you use the red & white wires for brushed motors. A newer version of the firmware went back to the standard red & black wires. I don't know if this was all Castle ESC's or not. |

i bought the esc used, previous owner said he hasnt touched any of his rc stuff in a couple years. so it had older firmware in it. he also opened up the case and removed the white wire from the board, used the black in its place. desoldered the red and black wire and moved it over to where the red & white wires were. it was working that way we i took it out of the package and tested it. after i updated the firmware the motor wouldnt run. i ended up im panic mode thinking i did something to kill the esc. i looked at a few pics and and cracked open the case and thats when i seen that output wires had been moved around. i put the red and black back where they were suppose to be and everythings good now. im running the most current firmware now |

I though it meant using something like blue and brown instead of some previous colours for the same connection. Suddenly switching from using cables A and C to using A and B isn't a good thing. Especially since A and C by default happen to be red and black.

I don't think it really matters. I'm running a few old sidewinders with the new firmware and I never had to move any wiring around. I've been using the red and black wires since day one.

If your ESC's had old firmware, then you were fine. If you then jumped to a new firmware, then you're fine. There were quite a few threads last year where Castle ESC's didn't work on brushed using red & black motor wires. Follow now? The case in this thread is where someone had a ESC with last years firmware, to follow brushed wiring color convention, they moved motor wires on the ESC.

in my case, the guy opened up the esc, took the wires off the board and solder the Red and black to the tabs that were needed for the esc to run the motor. no big deal once i figured out what was going on
