TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

Pro4 4000 testing:
68/13 spur/pinion
Summit trans
3s

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Mn9BC2XXvq4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's way to fast. Fist gear is about where I'd like 2nd to be... so I have some tuning ahead of me.
Also, it sounds like my sensor wire came loose during the 2nd gear run... it keeps slipping out of the esc.

Next Steps:
I'm waiting on a 10t pinion.
Will try 2s
the 68t spur was the largest that would fit in the Summit trans spur cover... I may have to loose the cover so I can go into the 70's.

And, I apologize for the editing. My buddy Bad1 is currently honing his video skills. ;-)

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

I highly suggest picking up a flexible sensor wire from someone like RC Cars & Trucks, RC Helicopters & Planes - A Main Hobbies. I had the same problem with mine in my Wraith, but the flexible wire seems to really help. I haven't had a problem since I switched.

thanks for the tip ittybitty! "thumbsup"

what brand did you buy?

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

These both look much more flexible than mine.

ProTek R/C Super Flex Brushless Motor Sensor Cable (200mm) [PTK-2105] | RC Cars & Trucks - A Main Hobbies

TQ Wire Flatwire Sensor Cable (275mm) [TQW3027] | RC Cars & Trucks - A Main Hobbies

Good looking rig, a couple of questions. This is the Tekin 4000kV correct?? and what 3s are you using?? what are the specs on it..reason I am asking is I am looking at different brushless motors for my new rig I just picked up and cant decide from 2700kV to 4700kV, the speed of the 4000 looks just about right for what I want...

thanks in advanced

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

Yes, the Tekin Pro4 4000kv.
I'd prefer, and suggest, the 3300kv.
The battery is a GForce 40c 1350mah 3s.
Value Hobby R/C Hobby Store (Bensenville, Illinois): GForce 40C 1300mAh 3S 11.1V LiPO

I use these for comp batteries... light weight with plenty of punch.
If you're bashing, you may want a 2200mah-5000mah.

The 1300mah gets me about 20 mins of run time with the Pro4.

and you havn't puffed these?? wow, good battery. Its a cross of trail running and full on dirt/mud/fun runner....

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

not yet but I just now installed the Pro4.

I have been running these exact lipo's in both this rig and my axial trans rig, each with a HH 14t Puller in series at 6s with no problems yet.

Mostly slow comps with a few fast spots and a TTC too: Sled Pull, Tug Of War, Hill Climb... a lot of full throttle stuff.

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

you can dial some of the speed out by simply lowering your end point adjustements. optimally you might want the lower kv motor, but you may find even the 3300 will be a tad too fast.

i run timmy with the throttle epa set around 60 to 75% most the time. especially on the rocks and the other techy stuff we run on.

What's your gearing?
I was thinking of looking into the MMP's settings... if I can find the right usb wire for my Castle Link.
The pinions should be here tomorrow... I'll check it out on 3s and 2s then go from there... but right now, it no crawl good.

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

I run the 3300kv on 3S and am using the Sky Lipo 5000mah 40C pack. It's been used to crawl for an entire pack as well as just all out bashing. It's the only pack I have for my rig so it gets quite a bit of use. I get around 45-60 minutes of solid run time out of it too.

I forget what my gearing is right now or I'd share that also...I know I'm running the Stage 3 Slipper from RRP, but I can't remember which pinion I went with.

I'd recommend going with 2S for your setup...it'll calm it down a lot. I did have a 2S for mine and when I needed to actually complete a hill climb sensibly the 2S was the pack to use. The 3S is just nuts and throws more roost...in other words it's more fun than practical.

If you're not committed to the Summit trans I'd definitely recommend an Axial transmission and the RRP gearing. The Pro4 motors have plenty of bottom end power to be able to crawl really well and haul butt when needed too "thumbsup"

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

If the 10t pinion doesn't get you down as low as you would want to be, you could pick some of the under drive gears and put those in the axles.
That is the option I am going with on my wraith axled TTC truck. It is almost 10 lbs and when you put OD and UD gears together on something that heavy, bad things are happening.

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

yup, currently running the od/ud setup. "thumbsup"

This rig usually doesn't move this fast.

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

Hera can crawl!
My 10t pinion showed up but it was too long and didn't fit.

So,
I put the trans back in and then took badhoopty's advice and lowered the throttle epa's. It gives enough control for a fairly smooth take off on 3s and better on 2s.
I ordered a Novak 10t, hoping that will get me where I want to be. "thumbsup"

Re: TEST: Pro4 4000/Summit Trans/3s

I had to try it.
Hera can now pull wheelies in 2nd gear on 3s with the throttle epa turned down to 70%.
