Default What motor to use on Wraith with 2speed tranny

I have a wraith with RC4wd 2 speed tranny. I have burnt 2 brushed motor (19t and 23T). Both only last 1 3s pack.

I have decided to go brushless as I have a MMP, I know everyone have high praise on Tekin Pro4 3300kv, but they are twice the cost of say tekin Reline 13.5t or Castle 1410 3800 4 poles.

Is Pro4 twice as good and the other 2 motors?

Between Reline line and castle, which one is better for my wraith which mainly used as bashing and FOFF, low speed control, not really a concern for me (at least for the time being).

I post the same question in the Wraith section with no love at all....

If you want smooth low end you will want sensored. So if you dont need as much low end, it sounds like the castle 4 pole would be in your best interest. It has lots of power, and for a good price. But if you want low end control, with high power, pro4 is what is recommended. How I see it: castle's 4 pole is the same as tekins but isn't sensored so it might cog a little if geared way high, or it's not in it's comfortable rpm zone. If your not gonna crawl, castle will be good. The tekin 13.5 is a motor for someone who wants the fine line between crawling (it's sensored) speed. And pro4 is a 13.5 on steroids. Look up wraiths with these motors (or similar motors) on YouTube to see what speed and capabilities they have. Also, Harley has a motor selection guide in wraith section, but most people there want low end so choose 13.5 or pro4. Check the foff section and see what others are using, they probably have vids In their build threads.

Sounds like you have another problem if you are burning out a motor in 1 pack...

I would investigate that before spending a bunch of money on a nice brushless motor.

I have check the driveline by removing the pinion. The truck roll freely, there isn't much resistance. The 2 motors that burnt was Brood intensity 19T which maybe too low winding to power this thing especially with the high gearing of the high gear of the 2speed tranny. The winding melted, so I replace the armature with a tamiya 23T one which melted the end bell. Therefore I figure than there may be not enough torque in the motor to run the heavy wraith in high range. or for the speed I wanted, brushless was the way to go.

I have a ezrun 10T (3900KV) which I can try but dont think it will last as I reckon 13T will be needed for the torque required.

I have just saw a reedy 550SL 4-pole sensorless in A-Main for 69.99, I might give it a try.

Great! Did you run it with 2 speed tanny?

Now I am tossed between Reline 13.5 and Reedy 550SL 4 pole. I guess Tekin will be the choice since its sensored and has 3mm shaft, so no need to buy new pinion.....

A few questions should be asked about your terrain as well as how much time do you spend in 2nd gear as opposed to 1st? Stock pinion and spur on the 2-speed?

What tires? Gearing?

Also, do you monitor your motor temps during your run?

Good luck with the 13.5, great motor.
