Default FX-R + HH = Fire

Hi All,

HH 45T Expert 540, Tekin FXR, Turnigy 2200 2S Lipo and Losi TX/Rx and servo. Installed this combo in my home made chassis and had some issues when I ran it for the first time. First off, is the HH Expert too much motor for the standard FX-R? I installed the components exactly as shown in manual and checked my work many times over. Actually I used the included red wire instead of the blue one on the motor +. After a couple minutes of running around the floor the + and - Batt terminals on the FX-R went poof and burst into flames. It got hot enough to de-solder the batt terminals on the ESC as you can see in the pics. Is there something I am missing here?

Forgot to mention...the power cap was installed as shown in the manual, I cut it off thinking it had gone bad or shorted but the ESC just started glowing again when power was applied to it. And yes, polarity was checked probably 6 or 7 times so I am positive it was wired correctly.

was the power cap on the right way theres a blue indicator mark on the bottom of the cap to point the right direction? it could have also been a bad esc.

Yeah...I don't see any issues with your install. Usually swapping the cap polarity causes it to fail, not the ESC.

High turn motors are almost never an issue, as mentioned the amp draw is down compared to a 35T or lower.

We're assuming the drivetrain is free, you didn't have it all bound up and not waaayyy over geared?

Contact Tekin. They can determine if it is warranty. Certainly looks like it is. Sometimes power electronics just fail out of the box, even with rigorous bench testing.

Everything is free with no binding, gearing is like 18/86 IIRC

I figured you had checked everything...also figured you'd checked the drive train.
Just making for sure for the next person that actually does a search.

Let us know what Tekin says, as stated, your pictures seems to indicate you did everything OK.

I had a very similar thing happen with one of my fxr's. a On the second pack I plugged into it the fxr went poof up in magic smoke. The battery had been used before with no issues and I had already run 1 pack through the setup. As soon as I plugged the new pack in it smoked and took the battery with it!! Contact tekin theyy will take care or ya!!! They replaced mine no issues!!!

Not saying that this was the cause but could the cap not short out the +/- posts with it installed in that location? I would certainly think it is possible if it gets bumped and the housing (for lack of a better term) made contact with both posts. I would suggest putting the cap on the top side of the ESC where that is a non issue.
