IMO, the support is worth it buying from Holmes, I'd go here...

To answer your question between the two from my personal experience.. All my speed gems work flawlessly even one that sucked up a rock! Still use it in one of my beaters today bought it back in 2008.

Every single Traxxas cheapo motor even the brushless ended life short.

Is there better for your application obviously yes and you know that.

Yeah, why not support one of the Founding Fathers of the crawling electronics world?

My HH TorqueMaster Sport motors have held up well in several of my builds.

I run the 550 21t titan in my scx10 on 3s. It an ok disposable motor. The extra can size delivers some extra torque, and the wheel speed is nice. If fits fine in my SCX10. I bought it because my LHS always has them on hand.

For the price of the speed gem, you can get yourself a nice team brood 35t machine wound motor. I run 2 of them in my XR10, and they work awesome. Buttery smooth, lots of low end torque, and top end wheel speed.

THanks for the replies and to answer I was just gonna pick one of them up at the lhs since the motor I have now is dead and didnt want to wait for shipping time..yes I know about holmes matter of fact thats the motor im replacing, first motor I bought was the 35t expert but didnt last a dozen runs again yes I talked to him already just I have to send the armature in to look at it and decide if he will replace it or I have to buy a new one, just more time waiting but I will send it just in the mean time want to run now.

Quality on the speed gems is so-so. Cheap magnets, cheap endbell, nothing really lines up well, can't even get the bearings out easily. Not my first choice when it comes to cheap. They work fine in a pinch though, so if your LHS has them it will get your running and if you don't plan to rebuild it then the issues aren't going to bother you. You will notice a reduction in drag brake and torque as compared to the TorqueMaster Sport or Expert that is getting replaced.
