Default Dead Motor Any Ideas?

Got a bad motor any ideas what could be the problem? It worked last time I ran it but now it wont run, gets hot fast and smokes from around the brush hood. They only thing I did since it was last ran was take it apart to clean it and switch the wires to the posts on the other side(not on the same side). The arm turns free in the can with no binding and the bearings spin fine.

Have tried...
hooked it up to the front esc.
swapped out the arm.
changed brushes.
hooked it up to the break in ps.

Any ideas what else to try or what could be wrong? Thanks...

My guess is:

Conductive crap between comm segments
You are connecting to the same pole/brush hood (you stated this is not so).

These are the only things that are "can" related. You have changed everything external to the motor.

Solder touching can.? Loose magnet? Are any screws or spring post touching ring that holds the brush hood on?

Nope still can't see what the problem is. Acts like it's shorted out though, maybe something I'm just not seeing. I tested the hoods with the brushes out and got an open line so I don't think the hoods are making contact with each other.
