i heard through the grapevine that sometime soon an ESC to use on brushless motors is coming our way?
if this is true....are there any specs on this badboy?
maybe even a link?

okay.....nothin on the HH ESC, then heres my dilemna....

i could grab the MMP but i hear the drag brake wont lock the rotor up good enough on an incline sending the rig backwards,
and from what i remember the Tekin ESC does the same thing?

so...what ESC can i get that the drag brakes locks right the eff up?
ill be grabbing a 20.5t Tekin this friday for my wraith so i need to know what esc would be better?

or should i wait and see if a HH esc pops outta the wood work?

in the HH cobalt puller thread (vendor section) John has alluded to a brushless motor and esc but I have no idea what the timeframe is on something like that.

Definitely in the works by John...timing is something he'd have to chime in on.

As for Drag brake in a brushless...never seen anything that was good yet. Remember most ESC's are for race and they run very limited drag brake in those so often times the ESC makers don't have a thought to include much of a stronger option. Though I'm not even sure brushless motors can have a powerful drag brake like that of a brushed motor.

I don't know why some have issues, my MMP locks up solid with a Novak 13.5 motor. My Goat was plagued with the issue, one of many things the switch to the MMP fixed.

Side note, 21.5 is a bad choice for a wraith, way to slow.

i realize this 21.5 is very slow but it will be my dedicated crawler...or...is is that STILL too slow?

if so...what should i consider (or) should i just stick with my current Tekin 13.5?

my wraith specs:
diffs 38/13 HD
trans RPP gears
Spur 32p/58t
Pinion 32p/12t

I have the mmp and the 3300kv pro4 and have no issues with the drag brake when i turn it on. Ii leave it off because I mostly bash with it but can still crawl it well enough with out the drag brake.

A 17.5 will drop your speed in half, a 21.5 will take 6s to equal your current motor on 2s. 17.5 crawls nice while still allowing enough speed to bump over stuff and clean mud out of the tires.

Swapping to a MMP and gearing down would help crawl ability also. A nice solid drag and instant reverse makes a big difference and might be a smoother ESC on the low end.

My wraith with a MMP and a 550 6.5t motor will flip over forward when you let off the throttle. The issues with drag brake is not if it holds, it is when you give it just a little throttle and it takes off.

Hows the drag brake for climbing, will it hold on a hill? I've been racing RC for years and ever since BL was the new thing, BL would never compete on standing drag brake to prevent rolls like we often want in crawlers.

My Wraith...just about speed not crawling so much like you I'll tune drag brake as a option for speed, not to hold the truck on a line in the trail.

The MMP has great drag brake and holding ability but all comes down to quality of the motor. 21.5t in my Wraith was fun but to slow for when i actually needed some wheel speed. I switched to a censored 13.5t and found it to be right where i needed it. Good luck.

We have a brushless ESC on the agenda, but no timeframe for it yet. There is another ESC that will be released first before we work on the brushless again. I'm trying to decide between a Castle programming protocol or my own system. Feel free to chime in on the power level, features, and ideas you would have for a BL ESC. It will happen, but it will take a while still.

Most of the drag brake issues with brushless motors are because of the motor design. Pro4's have no lack of it. Using a two pole "roar" style motor just won't give much drag unless you have a lot of geardown. Small rotor diameter, large airgap, low pole count. It is about the worst design for braking that could be fathomed, except for a slotless.

I've been watching this thread, interesting info. We may be doing some builds and BL may the way to go.

JRH, as to a programming language, I like the CC set-up as well as using the CC link. I would request using the same programming interface unless there is some major reason to skip it.

Also looking forward to your "upcoming" ESC.

Tekin RS, but smaller...maybe dual feedback loops : twisted:,

I'd say stick with castle link, or fit a micro usb on there if you want todo your own protocol
