Lipo disposal
 

I have a nano-tech 850 mah 3s 25c lipo that is showing 0v on on cell. this is after being connected to an ESC that fried.

There is no sign of any cell swelling. I think the high draw blew a connection in the battery, and not the cell itself.

Since its damaged, I want to dispose. But since one cell is reporting 0 voltage, i think just draining it will not make it safe, as the disconnected cell will remain dangerous at peak voltage (~4.0v)

Anyone have any experience with this scenario?

Yes, I am aware of those steps. But it doesn't address the question I have. I do not have a damaged cell, i have a cell that is no longer readable through the balance plug.

What is the pack voltage compared to the other 2 cells?

Lets say the pack voltage is 9.6VDC, the 2 cells that read show 3.2VDC, thus the last cell MUST be 3.2VDC. It's good.

If you want, you can CAREFULLY open the pack cover (where the wires come out) and reconnect the 1 broken balance wire. I have had to do this before.

If the pack reads 6.4VDC and the 2 cells that show read 3.2VDC each, the 1 cell is dead.

I would remove the pack connector and then dump the pack in a metal can of salt water.
Or, shot it with a BB gun (outside, away from stuff that will burn.)8)

PS, the solder used is a PITA to deal with unless you have a decent soldering iron.

Discharge to 3v per cell, drop in salt water bath...

As long as the voltage is reporting correctly from the main battery connector it does not matter about the balance plug being wrong.
