Default Holmes Torquemaster hard to turn

Is is suppose to be tight when you turn the motor end? I took it to my LHs and they told me it shouldnt be like this and it might be a bad motor.

If you grab the motor shaft can you move it in and out a very small amount? 1/8 inch maybe.

How hard is it to turn? Is it just "notchy" because that would be normal.

I would contact Holmes directly. He can answer any questions and figure out the problem.

Is it used? If so check for debris inside or a loose magnet maybe?

I would have to assume that the hobby shop isn't use to seeing crawler specific motors and in that case they probably aren't use to a motor that is set up the way these are. If you can spin it by hand...but it's just "notchy" as described above then it should be fine. If it takes much more than that to spin it...let's say it requires a pair of pliers to spin the motor shaft...then something is wrong.

More details on whether the motor is used or not...if it's used...how old...what type of use has it seen...etc. etc. etc. can be very helpful here.

You can't just grab the motor shaft and have it spin freely. Heavy springs and strong magnets put a lot of drag on the arm until you put the juice to it.

The guys at your local hobby shop old enough or in the hobby long enough to remember brushed motors.

Some crawler motors feel way hard to spin without a pinion on there. If it does spin and doesn't make any nasty noises, even though it feels stiff, its most likely fine.

If its nearly impossible to turn without like a pair of pliers on it, that's typically the sign of a shorted armature....

It should spin pretty easy with no brushes or springs in it....some are more stiff than others, but should still spin.

I've got a new 35t HH Trail Master that is a bitch to turn even with a pinion installed.

Hooked up to a BRXL on 3s it'll eat plastic Axial wheel hexes for lunch. I love it!

I went from sealed can axial to some team brood motors. The magnet strength is significantly stronger. After being used to turning the sealed can easily, it takes some effort to turn the brood.

I believe your problem really isn't a problem but actually the solution. A HH motor has a quality build, strong magnets stiffer springs making it a lot harder to turn without power being applied from ESC. This is exactly what you are looking for in a Scaler or Comp rig, makes drag brake amazing.

I took my other HH Torquemaster motor and it was the same. No reason to panic here....false alarm.
