why is my steering weak now?

i have a ax10, i built custom aluminum posts and steering linkage, and i had 2 duratrax nimh 5000 batteries. the truck used to run awesome and had tons of power, but a few months ago the truck would start cutting out and lose all power. i figured it was the batteries and the thing sat on the shelf for about 6 months.

now i bought a traxxas slash and a few lipo batteries, so i tried a lipo in the ax10 and it doesnt seem to cut out any more as far as i can tell, but the servo seems really weak and is slow. could this be a ESC or servo problem? if its servo, what is a good cheap upgrade servo? or should i get a stock replacement?

cheap does not equal good when it comes to servos. sounds like yours is stating to die
how old and what servo do you have now?

either the servo is giving out or you need a BEC. Probably both.

Ok we'll then how about a decent qualty servo that won't cost more than like $40...

It's the stock axial as-2 servo. The truck is about 1.5 years old

Any idea why the truck used to cut out? Is it normal for batteries to make it do that?

And what is a BEC?

I know your trying to be on a budget but for a couple bucks more (50,80,100depending what you find)you can get a servo that's name brand and won't need upgrading again 300oz + . But for cheap id say something like a hitec 625mg and look into a bec they work wonders becouse with out one your most likly not getting the torque your servo is rated for .

my Honcho had the esc set to lipo cut off.. I m using a NiMh, it would studder and cut out when the battery got low.
I turned that lipo cut off, off on the speed controller. I used the beep codes not a castle link. seems to work fine now.
And now that you have a lipo battery it doesn't do it.
On that servo problem, I have no idea.. mine is still strong. good luck

Yes, you need an external BEC!
