Default Hs-5645mg - :(

Howdy
I decided when buying my wraith kit to order what I thought was a "decent" servo and spend the extra money on it. The first run with that servo, it stripped out. I wasn't doing anything crazy, just running around in the backyard, turned and it stayed turned. I can here it spinning, and then catch if i move the front wheels by hand - so definitely stripped already.
What gives? Are thee just junk servos?
I should have just stayed with futaba - never had this problem with them at least - might not have as much torque, but at least they work...
At any rate - thanks for any input.

I've had great luck with the Futaba and Spektrum servos, the metal gear ones obviously, heck I never properly waterproofed the Futaba servo, I thought just coating the outside on the seams was good enough and realised I had water in it but it still worked all wet and all, it just sounded a little rough after a while.

I found out about the dielectric grease thing, going to do that on the next one just to be on the safe side.

Stripped the brass gear in 2 of those servos, they are pretty weak.

You can buy replacement gears though.

good servo...just not strong enough imo for a wraith....i would suggest something in the 300 oz range...the 5645 has only 164 oz of torque...but u can get replacement gears if u wanna rebuild it

Does someone make a better/stronger gearset for it? Or should I just count this as a lesson learned and buy a futaba?
Thanks!

Yea, wasn't looking for it to be amazing at that torque range - but wasn't expecting it to strip just while turning on grass...

Did the geartrain strip, or the servo arm splines?? I've seen a number of people think it's the servo when it's the arm.

It was the gear train - the brass teeth are gone over a fair section. Ah well, live n learn. .

Threw a cheap futaba in it, have ran it now for 2 hours total and it has not had an issue - no more hitec stuff for me - rather frustrating when a $30 futaba works better than a $50 hitec.
Thanks for all the input!

From this.... TowerHobbies.com | Hitec HS-5645MG Digital Ultra Torque Metal Gear 2BB I would consider it a "low end" crawler servo.

Airplane use as well as carpet/dirt is a LOT different than crawler use.
The Wraith is a cross between crawler/"go-fast", the shock loads can be quite high.

I would have never recommended this servo for a Wraith, but you already found out why.

Sorry you had an issue, but at least it was a "cheap" lesson.

Most 2.2 "crawler" servos are 200inoz+ and have at least steel gears.

Not slamming you, just commenting.

if you go with something like the Savox 1232sg thats $70 and is 305oz of torque, or for $100 you could get the Savox 1230sg which is a monstrous 500oz torque hehe, tons of ppl including me swear by Savox servos, never let me down, the damn things will wiggle my truck if it gets bound up real good...

I stripped one of these in my wraith (my fault though) so I rebuilt it and kept it for a backup! I run a Futaba 7955 in one truck and a $80.00 savox (not sure the model#) @ 7 volts in my wraith and neither one has let me down!
