Question BEC Question

Hi,
I'm working on a new RC project and decided to get myself a new, stronger servo. And in order to make it powerful I wanted to connect it straight to the battery, but learned it is safer to put a BEC in between the battery and the servo. (like THAT)
Now with that said I looked around for a BEC, and my local store offered me a 5A or a 7A BEC.

What is the difference between BEC's with different amps peak?

Thanks,

yorai

The difference is how much current it can deliver.

But safer with a BEC? Perhaps... it can act like a fuse if you get a short in the servo.
It will at least reduce the voltage and thus the strength of your servo.

Decent points to consider.....some servo's will work direct off a 2S LiPO, thus no need for a BEC.
A BEC is "cheap insurance" in the long run though.

Firstly thanks,
The servo I ordered is a HS-7954SH Hitec servo. Do you think it would handle the voltage straight from the battery?

the 7954 is a high torque high voltage so if you up the voltage to it with a bec it will get you full potential torque out of it. there is a guy on here goes by "heyok" he sells what he calls a no brainer bec set to what ever voltage you want or he has another that is user adjustable real easily
both of these are full plug and play and wire direct to any servo not through the rx

i personaly have two of them and they work seemless for the past year prior to that i burned up three castle ebc's in one week ....just sayin

I run my 7954 straight off my 2S LiPo. That's what it's designed for!

What I was asking about is if I need to lower the voltage so I won't damage the servo. And I guess the answer is right here:

Great! Now I just need to wait for my servo to arrive
