| ESC Cutting Out; FXR; Need Advice
Truck: XR10 ESC: Dual FXR's with Crawler Innovations Caps BEC: CC BEC set to 7.4V Motors: Brood 30T skewed arms, 2 mag Vapors Battery: GenAce 450mah / CBP Elite 850mah Before going the lightweight route on my comp truck, I was running the same setup, except 45T skewed arm, 4 mag motors. This setup worked flawlessly. The only change I've made to the electronics is swapped to the new motors listed above. Under normal driving the truck behaves fine. When you punch it, most notable when going back and forth(trying to flip back over), the truck will cut out. I will have zero power to the motor until I release the throttle and get back into it. Sometimes I can hold it wide open and it'll randomly drop in and out. I'm completely stumped now. I don't know what to do. Are the motors drawing to much power for the ESC's? Are the motors drawing to much power for the batteries? Are my ESC's just completely toasted? So my two questions: 1) Can you explain my problem? 2) If you recommend new ESC's what should I go with for my setup? (micro sidewinders, mamba micro pro, etc) |

How is your BEC wired? Is your RX near the ESC's? What is the current limit setting on the FXR's? * |

BEC is wired off of one of the ESC's and goes into the RX. RX is about 1/2" behind the ESC's. Never thought of current limit. Not sure without plugging it in, and my truck is not in my hands right now. I'll get back to you. |

I have always run the BEC directly from the battery power wires to the servo directly. Then the yellow signal wire from the servo goes to the RX. The RX can handle 3s and 4s power so no need for the bec to power the RX. That is the best way to do it. I would recommend you do that for sure. That may solve your problem. The ESC's should be set with no current limitations, basically a low current setting will shut them down if the motors demand too much juice. That could be happening. |

I'm not worried about the wiring of my BEC/RX/Servo. The current setting could very possibly be my problem. I'll check that this weekend. |

Alright, but if your servo gets power from your rx, witch gets power from your esc, that gets power from the BEC it is possible the the internal BEC from one or both ESC is being overloaded and that is what is causing the esc to shut down. Just saying.

ESC red wires are pulled and give zero power to the RX.

This is the recommended way to wire your rig arcticzap..... Because it simplifies trouble shooting and glitches like this, I had almost the exact issue as you are having on my xr10, I changed the wiring to.....1 fxr supplies power to Rx, 1 fxr no power wire to rx, and BEC takes power directly from battery lead posts on fxr, and then custom stuff to supply servo with power from bec and only signal from Rx Try it! It can't make it worse Just means more soldering! | |

If your fxrs are programmed to firmware 029 or 030. There having issues with that. 028 is only good one currently until they release 031.

Your wiring is easy and tend to works fine so I see no issue. When the motors quit, do you still have steering? Do the FX-R's rearm? I run a similar set-up in my rig (except BEC is direct to the servo) and I use CBP Elite 850's as well. I run 35T motors so similar motor loads. |

Yes steering still exist. FXR's don't rearm. They just quit, then reallow power once the load has subsided or doesn't appear to cross a certain point. |

Remove one motor at a time from the circuit (remove the pinion from the unactive motor)...does the problem remain? Do both motors do it or just one? If one, put it on the other speedo...does it still do it? The odd part is its shutting down both speedos, which leads me to believe the current limiter is on. Shorted arms can shut down a speedo, but usually its just the one its connected to, not both... Later EddieO |

Esc's didn't feel out of normal. A touch warm, which seems to be usual. Batteries will get very warm if I stay on them for a while. Under normal crawling, hardly warm. |

Working on Zaps truck now, rolled back the firmware to 28 tried a couple different batts all 3s 450 gen ace 460 nano tech 850 gen ace and a 1300 cheap battery pack. All give the same issue except the 1300 cheap batt pack, truck works fine with that. Also the cheap batt pack is the only one with larger gauge wire. Wires get some what hot with all batts. |

Just tried a 500 4s with throttle turned down and it works but wires from batt and to esc get extremely hot

Yeah those Gens Ace batts have some small a$$ wire, my Broods have huge wire. Did you turn the current limit off? |
