Default BEC as a resistor for an ESC

OK someone in the wanted section on here is buying a BEC to use before his esc so he can drop the volts of a 3s or 4s battery down to 2s. Am I crazy or does this seem like a bad idea to anyone else? I guess it could work but then you still need some sort of low voltage setup as well. Has anyone done this before? Has anyone done this before successfully? It just doesn't seem to make sense especially in this time of $10 and cheaper lipos?

What's the point of running anything bigger then 2S if you don't want to use the volts??

I run a bec to a small esc for winch duties. Actually split at 7.5v to steer servo and winch esc.

As a main motor esc, not sure it's worth it. The motor amperage would be limited by the bec.

Heh, I was just reading that thread, then I seen this.

I dont see the point in it either, an ESC that cant handle 3s, shouldnt be ran with a 3s. limiting the votage sounds like a wasted battery.

I think he is either confused, or by chance we are mis understanding the intentions.

A smaller battery is cheaper than a BEC.

I didn't think of winch control. This makes sense. I only ASSUMED he was going to use it on his main motor. And we know what happens when we assume...

I agree. It would just be easier to run a 2S battery then go through all that trouble.

BEC to FEED a ESC??!! Good way to kill a BEC IF it's to be used for the drive motor. For the money of a BEC, just get 2S LiPO's.

BEC to feed a winch controller (not counting a ESC as a winch controller), servo, etc. is OK and done all the time.
