wondering if I should ''water prof'' my NIMH batteries.

If you're running in fresh water, I wouldn't worry about it, salt water, yes.

If it makes you feel better, you could run a balloon over the pack with dielectric grease where the pack wires come out.

If you search for "waterproof" you will get more hits.

I'm only running it in fresh water so I guess I don't have to worry about it.
