| beatin the dead horse again ( which servo)
well i need some new servos so i can get my crawler back up and running and do some destruction on Adams' Clod i need some that have good torque and are cheap and after searching around a bit, i kinda narrowed it down to a bluebird servo or the XTM 175. but which one is better. yeah the bluebird has a little bit more torque, but i want which one would last longer. after reading through some posts, i see Dave basically swears by the Bluebird, but yet i have seen other people have burned them up in 2 runs and sometimes can't even get them to work at all. On the other hand, about the only main thing i have heard about the XTM is that they are slow, but i'm not gonna be setting no land speed record with a crawler anyway. so which one is better? |

Well I don't know anything about the XTM but I just purchased and installed 2 bluebirds on my project. They do have good torque. I ended up spinning a gear on one of the servos. I tore it apart and it was really simple to fix. basically the gears are just pressed into each other and the one that I spun didn't have a good fit but both where steel so I just ball peaned them together and I haven't had any more problems. I do like how the bluebirds are put together thou..... but I don't like the two piece gears.

I haven't had any problems with my BlueBirds... And I'm pretty hard on my stuff. I've killed two cases and about 10 servo horns. (The 10 servo horns says something pretty good about em.. Most shredded out the splines) A few people have had problems though. Like Rick, above. I wouldn't say I sware by them, but they work EXTREMELY well for me. I'm thinking since I got them before the huge rush when they went out of stock, I got some made with care. I think when Balsa Products (extremely surprised no doubt) called up BB and said "HOLY SHIT! WE NEED SERVOS! FAST!" they probably turned a bunch of cruddy servos off the line. |
