| Nasty Hot Hitec 7954SH Servo Issue??
Hey guys i wished to ask some advice for those familiar with Hitec Servos or servos in general. I have a Hitec 7954SH. I have been using all year on my Sportsman and after a short run its getting nasty hot. Nasty that you can not physically touch it. I dont rememeber it doing so under comp conditions other than on really hot day. Two issue are happening. 1. servo is getting so hot after 10 mins it can not be physically touched. 2. At same time i loose all drive from my ESC. Its capable of 403oz / 29kg ay 7.4V. I run it direct of a CC Bec which is set at 7.4v. I have re checked it this arfternoon and its still set at 7.4v. It has not changed. I had a run this arfternnon for about 10 mins. I didnt loose steering but did loose drive. The ESC is a HH BRXL that has been de cased and de heat sinked. Has never shown an issue. Im running a 11.1v 45c Lightning Power Lipo. As the Servo itself is getting very hot, generally wih heat is a high work load and a high current draw. I was wondering if the servo has an internal issue and is overheating or over drawling current although its keeping on working could it drain enough power from the battery to cause the ESC to starve of voltage at the same time.? Also secondly any thoughts as to why a servo designed for the voltage iam running at is designed to is getting soi damn hot? Ben. |

It's getting hot possibly because it's working (too) hard. Take it apart. Clean and lubricate gears, bearings and motor. Make sure the front wheels can turn freely left-right. |

Most HV Hitec servos have a working temperature range of -20 to 60 degrees C, is it getting that hot? What capacity is your 3S lipo? Insufficient current from the power source can cause the devices running off the power source to get hot down the line. Battery could be getting tired too. Can you check the voltage under load? Is the CCBEC getting hot? |

are your end points going beyond the mechanical limitations of your steering? i had to get a hitec programmer after frying steering and winch servos left and right on my c2 scaler. i also shortened the throw on my servo horn and increased the rotation a bit so the steering linkage didnt have so much leverage on the servo. since then i havent had any issues. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll go back and have a look today. The battery is an 850mah. The end points are set. The steering is free when on john load. The only thing have found is the steering in a bind can physically move past a comfortable range. It may need Sonera method to physically limit it... Have to think about it. it probably got hot and the motor magnets were weakened. Then it is more prone to overheating and drawing more amps, making a cycle of further overheating and damage.

Might want to actually check the voltage coming out of your bec, I had a 7950 doing almost the exact same thing and the regulator on the bec had gone bad and it was feeding 3S lipo voltage to my servo. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 |

My buddy had this happen on a brand new servo. It fried itself after an hour of running. All electrical was fine in the crawler. . It was a defective servo.
