Default Really p.o.ed

I have a xl5 im running with a cheap atomik 35t motor
1: The motor is running extremely hot.
2: When i go in reverse i get short surges of it, not a steady reverse. Its really making me mad. When i tried to calibrate it, it reconized full throtle but not reverse. Any ideas?
3: really short run times

Any ideas on how to fix these problems?

I don't think it's an ESC issue if you're receiving input for throttle/reverse. Could be a radio issue...might help if you list more info for everyone: what kind of raido are you using? do you have something else you can try your radio on? Are all the trims zero'd out? And how short do you mean for run times for your type/mah of battery?

+1...more info helps.

The motor heat may be overgeared, or in need of service (when did you last check brushes, oil the bushings/bearings), how much time on the motor?
You may also have the gear mesh too tight or a bind in the drivetrain.
All of these can overheat the motor as well as shorten the battery life/runtime.

1: The motor is running extremely hot. probably overgeared, what gears are you running?

3: really short run times a 1300 mAh gives my trucks (AX-10 based) between 1/2 hour and 45 mins. What are your expectations for run-time?

Any ideas on how to fix these problems?
Offer up a bit more info, see if you get better results.

Lipo? 2s or 3s?

Pull the drive shafts from the tranny, spin each by hand, see if there is any binding..

Take the pinion off the motor, Or move the motor away from the tranny an spin that by hand.

I had a Rustler that kept burning up motors with stock gearing, changed gears and fixed it. New doesn't mean everything is right.

Yeah, that's not right. How long are you charging your batts and what charger?

I'm presuming you used the stock 20T pinion when installing the motor. Make sure the gear mesh is properly setup. You need to have a tad of backlash.

Try a different battery...LiPo suggested. You should not have any issues with a 35T motor with stock gearing on a Dingo providing all the rotational parts are free to move. I get an hour+ out of an 1800 mAh LiPo on the trails with the stock 27T motor.

I get 2 hours or more from my nimh batts. So I wouldnt directly blame them. Lipo is better, but that doesnt make nimh automatically suck.

1800mah is still 1800mah whether from a gel cell, lipo, nicd or nimh. Just saying. Its a unit of measure for reserve capacity.

Now an 1800 that cant take a full charge, has a shorted or bad cell etc, different story.

ehh, dont be to quick here. yes, 1800mah is 1800 mah. but a 1800 mah stick pack will not give the run times that a 1800 mah lipo pack does. all the batteries you listed are far lighter than a stick pack. less weight = less stress on the rig = longer runtimes.

Its not worth thread jacking for, but for the sake of the evening, lipo is better. I am more than aware of that. I just like my nimh packs because they take my abuse and wont rupture in a bad roll lol.

(plus they handle cold better from what I have experienced)
