Default Cobalt Puller Sparking! Timing?

My cobalt puller has just been installed after purchasing it from classifieds. I have seen it sparking when I really punch the throttle or throw it it reverse. I have read theat timing may be the issue that it may have retarded timing but I am not sure how to reset the timing to 0. I need some pictures to guide me.
Also, the motor has been running faster in reverse than forward no mater how the power cables are arranged.

Thanks
Chris Sanchez

Chris....some sparking is normal for brushed.

As to faster in one direction, assuming the ESC is correctly set up as well as the radio, you likely have timing the wrong way.

DaBomb gave a decent link referring to timing.

Do you have timing marks on ur puller? I sent pics of my 3 pullers to John just a couple days ago, two are a little diff an one is rotated a good bit. One has timing marks scratched into it. I have yet to hear back from him, it is the weekend... I'm looking for comparisons if you do have marks.. a pic would help me help you more either way..

The two with motor plates are close, one with deans has marks, one without a motor plate is farthest off..

Hope it helps both of us...

Brushes spark.. its not just urs..

My can doesn't have any timing marks but I did find this Caring for your new Brushed motor for the timing issue I had

I also know that there are puller motors out there that are not made by holmes but by the same factory that he uses or something like that.

I just go by sound.... Loosen endbell a little go full throttle fwd/rvr back and forth as you make very small adjustment and I call it a day. Definitely not the most accurate but without hash marks its better than just tearing up brushes.

Brushes will spark though , it can be excessive though from timing or even wear/debris
