Default Tekin FX-R Programming and BEC

Can't seem to get my Tekin FX-R to program. Its hooked up with the Castle 10A BEC as I'm running a bigger steering servo. Tried and tried, but it won't program. Steering works fine. Any recommendations?

You have the HotWire? Or are you trying to program without it?

TX throttle EPA's to 100%
TX throttle trims to "0"
Calibrate the ESC to the RX.

How is the BEC connected? To the servo or the RX??

What radio? Futabas and a couple other require you to "reverse the throttle channel" in the TX.

What LED's do you see when calibrating?

just trying to get it to perform a basic calibration.

FX-r never finds neutral from the RX (Spektrum DX3S).

Have tried it with BEC connected to receiver with red wire cut on receiver plug like they show in the plans. Have also tried w/o the bec. As far as I can tell all settings on radio are at neutral/zero. Don't have the hotwire setup.

It happens if the esc is used and someone put a dead band too small in hotwire.

So have been messing with it for an hour or two and here's what I've learned.

The FXR will only see reverse if you turn the endpoint down to 40. It will then only see full throttle/full reverse if you turn the endpoint up closer to 80. But if you turn off it won't start up and gives you the 3 lights (high or low, depending on which endpoint you set last). Only once did it pretend to behave correctly, and then as soon as I turned it off and back on it gave the 3 leds again. There is no neutral band/width setting on the DX3s.

I've got another FXR unopened that I may try tomorrow. (I'd like to be on a common esc format across my rcs.) I had other problems with this specific SCX10 and the Novak Goat setup, the one thing that's unusual about this is that this is the RX with the telemetry. Maybe I'll pick up one of the basic RX's and see if that solves it...

Tried a RX w/o the telmetry. Starting to think its a bad esc out of the box. Anyone from Tekin on the forum? Emailed customer service last night.

Check this out... I threw the RC and Radio in the truck so I could tinker with it at lunch. ESC calibrated almost instantly and repeatedly. I think its possible that my place has too much electronic noise going on for it to pick up the TX cleanly enough to calibrate... Will try a DIY faraday cage this eve with some aluminum foil...

Aluminum Foil Hat Wearers Rejoice!

Got home from the office and for giggles tried to calibrate the ESC. Same story as earlier, ESC won't find neutral, etc. So I took a piece of aluminum foil (12" by 30" or so). Loosely wrapped it around the RC with the TX at the end of the Aluminum 'tube' so it could reach the RX. Tried to calibrate and it worked first try - easy peasy.

Guess there's just too much wireless going on in my area for the ESC to pick up a clean signal.
