| Futaba R2004GF binding issue
I bought a used Futaba R2004GF on here. I am trying to bind it with my 4PL. On the manual it states bring both receiver and radio close to each other, power on transmitter then power on receiver. Push and Hold link switch and wait for green light. This does not happen. I get a flashing red when I push the link switch on the receiver. I dont remember it being this hard when I tried on my other receivers. What am I missing here? BTW the radio is set to the proper mode for the receiver. |

I think that rx is for the 3pl and not the 4pl. At least to my knowledge that is what it's for.

Interesting. My 3pl came with the r2004gf and my 4pl came with the r2104gf. On the futaba web site it says the 2004 is for use with the 3pl and 4yf. So now I'm at a loss for words. Good to know they do work sometimes.

Hmmm, the Futabarc.com website I looked at says you can use the R2004GF with the 4PL. You have to manually select the transmission mode (S-FHSS or FHSS) in the 4PL settings in order for it to work with a FHSS (FH) only RX. All Futaba FHSS or S-FHSS receivers work with all Futaba FHSS radios (not including the 14SG and 18MZ which are only compatible with the S-FHSS range of receivers). |

The R2004GF works for me with 4PL. I was having the same problem with binding and found this sequence worked. As SuperRoo said, turn your model to FH receiver. With the Transmitter ON and the power to the receiver OFF, press the LINK button on the receiver. Then turn the power ON to the receiver. It should only take 1-2 seconds to bind and turn GREEN. Also, from the Futaba website on the 4PL info page; ---- Another versatility plus is selectable FHSS/S-FHSS modes, which allow you to use R603GF or R2004GF FHSS receivers, or take advantage of the higher frame rates available with the included high-voltage R2104GF receiver (FUTL7616), which is also available separately. ---- |

Ah, now I get it. If you go to the futaba website and look up the 2004 rx it says it will not work on the 4pl. But if you look up the 4pl radio on their site it says you can use it. And this is why, (IMO) you are better off talking with the end users of the product right here on rc crawlers to get the "real" story. Thanks for enlightening me guys. |

Yeah. The RX seems not to be 'clear' on the site. It appears to clarify that this is an FHSS model and should be used with FHSS TX. It makes a distinction regarding FASST and FHSS being incompatible, but does not say anything about S-FHSS compatibility. I know that the R2004DF does in fact work with the 4PL. Just set it up on my Wraith this past w/e and works great. natskiboy - don't sell it, try to bind it. Use the steps I used and see if it works for you. |

I know it's an older thread but I want to chime so there is an answer. I own a 3pl and a 4pl. I did get the 4 pl to bind with the 3 pl rx 2004. 4 pl needs the rx set to FH for the rx 2004.

| Re: Futaba R2004GF binding issue I believe you need to set the TX model to "FH", not the RX. The RX is what it is, no changing that. You have to tell the TX what type of communications the RX is looking for. |

I came across this thread trying to figure out why I couldn't bind my R2004GF receiver to my 4PLS and thought I would add to what you've already got here for the next guy! The R2004GF receiver doesn't bind in any of the ways shown in the 4PLS manual. The only thing you need to do is set the applicable receiver type for the model number you wish to use as FHSS. Power On your radio (not display switch), power on your receiver. The light on the receiver should be red. Press the button on the receiver and it will begin blinking red and will settle at green. Done. Don't need to do anything else on the radio other than setting the receiver type to FHSS. https://futabausa.com/wp-content/upl...09/R2004GF.pdf Hope this helps! |
