| Weak motor?
Weak motor Ok so I have a rooster crawler esc with a Novak 45 t rockstar motor. When I get in a little bind it seems like the motor gets weak. It also gets really hot. No idea what's up. I do have a bec hooked up as well. Any help would be awesome!! The motor hasn't been used often and I do have a cc bec hooked up |

Brushes are good and shiny and pinion is stock axial gearing

0n mine im running a 16 pinon never had it hot , all i can say is clean the com where the brushes ride and you might think of a brush change if one gets a small crack or hangs up they do that

I polished the armature an checked the brushes. Brushes were good. Like I said I haven't run the motor much.

In an electric motor torque and current goes hand in hand. In a bind/stall the motor will draw its maximum current from the battery (limited only by the combined resistance in wiring, ESC and battery). The power drawn is all converted into heat, since there's no mechanical power delivered. This makes the motor heat up. As the motor heats up, the wiring's electrical resistance goes up as well, increasing the heat generated while slightly reducung current and torque. The solutions are to a) use a smaller pinion to get into binds less often. b) use a slipper clutch. (I don't.) c) once you get into a bind, release the throttle ASAP to prevent overheating. Free the crawler by hand. If you keep the motor powered while being bound up it will overheat.

Makes perfect sense. My only concern is that I could be a cold motor and fresh battery and it still happens. I'll try the small pinion tho. Thanks for the info

It's the bind that (indirectly) cause the heating, not the other way around.

Agree but when I take my stock scx10 and I have no issues that makes me wonder its something else other than my driving.
