Default Brushless Motor Bearings

Hello all,

Does anybody know of a sensored brushless motor that has removable bearings?

I have Novak BL motors and the bearings are pressed in and fixed with a glue of some type (per email with Novak). Since I like to use them in the mud/water, I'd like to be able to remove the bearings and replace with ceramic ones.

I tear them down each run in the water a oil the heck out of the bearings but I don't know how long they will last like that.

Every brushless motor I've messed with has had press in bearings. I would find someone that has the capability to properly swap them for you...

just like changing bearings in a brushed motor. find a drift, punch or a socket that fits the way you want the bearing to be driven, couple good hammer hits on top of something that fits the outside dia. of the bearing. this all assumes you get the can open and the rotor out.

I have replaced bearings, in a bunch of different brushless motors including novak and fantom's with 0 issues so give it s bit more work, on that novak if still giving issues drop a bit of acetone around edge of bearing and let it sit a few minutes

I've replaced the bearings and endbell an old Novak SS 5800. Ran that thing for years. Outlived a few trucks.

Does anyone know of a chart listing the common bearing sizes and what motors they fit?

How does one know if a bearing is rated for high-rpm motor usage?

i have a couple Tekin redline motors I've changed the bearings in, they came out fairly easy. Avid rc has motor specific ceramic bearings for $5 a piece I'm sure they could help with picking the right size.

Nice! Thanks I'll give that a try. Are you saying they're just epoxied (or whatever they use) in and not pressed into the housing? The one end has a recess for the bearing that is a blind hole. There is no way to push it out. The only thing I can do is put the armature in and try to pry on it and work it out.

As for choosing the right sized bearings, Boca lists Novak brushless motors under their various products. If you select it, they list the bearings that fit and the prices. This gives you the size. Their prices seem fair, but you could always buy elsewhere since you would have the sizes you need.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to try the acetone once these bearings start to seem a little rougher. They're like new right now. I just love to abuse them awful and it would be much better with ceramic bearings.

A bit of heat in the right spot will help you out.

Heat the material surrounding the bearing with a pen torch. Both inside and out. Be very gentle with aluminum endcaps or they will deform or crack and do not heat bearings with a flame unless you're replacing them.

The heat will remove any remaining epoxy, glue or loctite and the material surrounding the bearing will expand and after a couple of light taps on your workbench it should come out easily.

put the whole endbell in the oven at 250 deg for 30 min. get a pair of gloves and work the bearing out with what ever tool you are using. dont use the rotor. you dont want to bend it. if you have a drill press i would open up the blind end anyways. makes bearing maintenance easier. if you are careful you could also use the drill press to push the bearing out with a rod or dowel chucked up in the drill press. not like you are gonna hurt a bad bearing.
